I just read through this entire thread! (With the exception of reading Dee Eight and SuperFunkTrons inane posts)

I haven't played this game in a couple weeks because I'm planning on quitting when new skill tree releases. You see PGI wanted me to regrind all this stuff i already had

So you didn't read the posts that contradicted your views about the new skill system and only read ones that supported your views. Tell me, you didn't happen to vote for Donald Trump did you ?

Well, time to cancel those pre-orders again...

Seriously... is like they pick the most unpopular method (9.1 mill c-bills to master a mech) on purpose.

I'm sure my pre-orders which have never been cancelled more than makes up for your cancelled ones.

I'm not sure if I should be insulted or honored by this. I took the time to try to find actual examples, perform calculations, and explore less popular ideas so that they could be out there to offer some insight to what the other side thinks. Skipping over means one of two things. 1) You really didn't want to take anytime understanding what other people may see as a value in the system or 2) there were too many big words or difficult concepts. If it is the latter case, I am willing to help you through it. If its the first, I've got nothing to gain from swinging at you. I just hope you enjoyed the reaffirmation you got while shielding yourself from broader perspective.

This thread is whiney enough without the left-wing butthurt.

Hi Super,

From my own observations you need to put less stuff in your posts. Most people turn off after 5-10 lines of text. Brevity. Not having a go at you btw, just letting you know what I see.

Yeah, Dee Eight really is something special, ain't he? But it's okay. That kind of nonsense is fairly easy to ignore.

I bit the bullet and read through the whole thing myself as well, and I've got to say there have been some really good points raised in here thus far. My own thoughts are mixed. On one hand, the previous skill "system" we've had for 2+ years always sucked. It was arbitrary and dumb, so it being replaced is not in and of itself a bad thing. However, I feel like that's not where man hours need to be right now, with all the other considerations there need to be. Remarkably poor time management all around that really makes me wonder how the people in charge have jobs. It's kinda making the game look like a money farm for the next project.....and that kind of thing never goes well.

We have bad point and shoot mechanics, non-existent collision detection, laughable hitreg, performance issues, etc etc etc, and they're investing time in a way to rejigger numbers around in a slightly different way. This "skill tree" adds practically nothing to the game whatsoever. In its current form, it's nothing more than a grind extension - or a grind reboot as far as most of us are concerned.

They talk about "open-ending" your mechs based on what strengths you'd like to play on, but you don't do that with a skill "tree." You do that with a *grid.* You invest time and virtual money on a focused set of tweaks. Anything else is just a poorly-concealed attempt to push a harder grind. I wonder if they really thought that nobody would catch on to this.

I got excited by the idea of needing to grind out some new the supernovas. I'm going to being more interested in buy mech packs now that there are will be a system letting me make all the variants useful.

Please, tell me how the new skill tree lets you make all variants useful in the upcoming Supernova.
It lets you move the hardpoints from the low arms to a better position? Or maybe it lets you to raise the engine rating cap? What's the difference between the old skill system (with fixed choices) and the new one (with fixed choices too + one weapon tree)? How can the new skill tree overcome the obvious shortcomings of the SN to make all the variants useful?

I'm gonna listen to Vickers on this one and keep this short. You've already got multiple walls of text from me on here. All of your answers are in there.

Yes, I got multiple walls of text from you, but they are related to multiple questions.

I'm asking for an answer to an especific question, not for your theory about all the skill tree system. I quoted a full post from you, so please, can you answer my question?

PLEASE LEAVE REAL WORLD POLITICS OUT OF THIS SALT MINE. I've dealt with enough Self-proclaimed "tolerant" people that lose their **** when others don't parrot their declarations and attack all that don't conform to their views/claims. LEAVE THE REAL WORLD IN THE REAL WORLD, this place is for this game

I've been reading (almost) all posts here, and i did try the PTS several times.

Bottom line stays the same:

Grind like crazy or invest RealCash (what did. you expect? Someone has to pay PGIs bills)

My launcher portal just updated itself. Did they also change the PTS ?

EDIT: Nope, no change. I notice they didn't bother to update the "Skill Tree revamp launching Feb 21" message.

If PGI bothered to play their game they'd probably notice such things.

Actually, no. We don't have to pay anything.

In fact, if the grind gets too onerous, it's possible so many of us will walk away that too few will be left to pay PGI's bills.

When you have over 1m SP on a few mechs, then complain about grind for chassis.
I'm sitting on 500+m C-Bills with nothing to spend them on.

Pretty much sums it up. Needs more truly specialization, instead of an xp tax.
Then indeed it could become a tool to help out the weaker variants.

One thing I did realize is: I'm not gonna play all my 100+ mechs at once, so if I just keep focusing on a handful of mechs and phase into it, I should be fine for a while and actually would feel rich cause of the refund of modules!

What, you've never heard of Clan Pussygrabber? They were small in numbers, but gained a disproportionate amount of fame by exclusively fielding Urbanmech IICs and insisting they be painted a weird 'fakeish blond' at cockpit level. They didn't last long though..

You asked multiple questions, all with the intent to get me arguing about something that doesn't have any real basis because we don't have access to it. Why would I waste time trying to explain how to help the Supernova when its not out? The best I could give you are potential loadouts and nodes I'd purchase. Until the mech is out we don't know what the actual weaknesses are. It's asinine to ask about moving weapons and engine caps knowing that neither system touches that topic. If you don't like weapon locations or engine caps, no one is going to make you buy or use the mech.

If you want examples of the skill trees application, I've already posted about a Timber Wolf and Orion IIC builds. If you want to know what the difference in the new and old upgrade trees are, they are also posted. Not just theories, but actual differences that use the altered game mechanics in the PTS as a contextual basis.

If you are set on the Supernova being a failure before it comes out, that's your own deal, I don't really care. If you are genuinely interested in ways to make the builds work, then look at the concepts and cases I provided in those walls of text and try applying them.

We have the hardpoints, engine cap and quirks (as seen on the PTS notes), what more do you need to answer the questions?

Tell me that you won't do it and call it a day...
