Read a lot about boating here and tried myself to see what happens if I max out one system vs haveing different weapons to max.

I find that the most advantage is not in the weapons beeing better if maxed out but the lack of possible other nodes I could take when trying to get all my weapons up to the max.

I also find it true that the current system is pretty close to the old one. We couldn't max out everything either.

Still there is the point of loosing some options even with just two half skilled weapon systems...though it works kinda well.

So I thought what could be done and had a pretty different idea (its a basic idea)

I would create 3 seperate Systems/trees

1) The Pilot
Here you would find all kinds of skills related to the pilot. Skills like "Target Decay" (would rename it to "awareness" or something like that.
Also a "favorit weapon" skill that generaly boost a specific weapon.
Fill in skills that you assossiate with abilities a Pilot would have.

All these skills would be fixed to the Pilot and would be globaly applied in every match.

2) The Mech
Here you will find the quirks of your mech of choice. A basic set of good and bad quirks that make this mech unique.
Would add a lot more things that could go wrong and right then we have now...Like "Yes you can mount a AC20 in that light mech but the recoil will shake you up pretty good"
The would give mechs more character.
This would also include the mech-specific skills like "turn speed" Its the skilltree where you do everything mech related.

3) Equipment
I would remove the entire weapon skill trees and give the weapons themself positive and/or negative characteristicas.
Who wouldn't like to have the "Armstrong Buster Autocannon" with the extra range boost or this nice Luxor-D Series LBX cannon with less spread.

So no matter if you are boating or you are haveing many different weapons, you would still be able to use them efficient....for a price far higher then the basic model, except they have drawback like greater range but higher jam chance.

Its a more "roleplaying / simulation" approach and yes there will be tonnes of weapons to choose from, I know but it would be kinda interesting.
I can also think that for Faction-Warfare it can be interesting to give loyal units a discount on good produced by their house/clan.

Also it would add a little of the lore flavor in that me and other miss so much, give people a lot of option and other stuff.

Feel free to get into details. I am sure I missed a lot of stuff that could get wrong but I saw so much potential in the idea that I had to post it.
