one thing I really like about the PTS is how nicely tanky the mechs feel but the more I think about it, the more I worry that only having 4v4 games is distorting this perception and that once we get to 12v12 that feeling of tankiness will evaporate.

I'm pretty sure there has been SOME increase in mech toughness and time to kill but I worry that once we get to doing 12v12 drops that difference will become negligible.

thoughts?

Agreed. Its hard to get a feel for it if we can't test it in the scenario we'll be using most often.

With the amount of thoughtful (not counting the trolls) negative feedback on the skill tree they should be doing another PTS (that is assuming negative feedback means they will attempt to correct the issues) in that case it really should be 12v12

It will still work in many situations.
Like 3 enemies behind corner and you have 4 friends with you.

Normally you would go 1st and they would evaporate you before 3rd friend comes out and your team gains advantage.
Now you will survive long enough to have 5 vs 3.

Once people understand this, there will be much more brawling and assisting to each other.
