I was so sad to see mention of the Heartbreaker Atlas in the new challenge only to see it was not actually one of the rewards.

Missed opportunity.

PGI has only ever given away mechs from faction warfare events and for buying stuff.

EDIT: Not saying I wouldn't support getting some free mechs from QP events, but I'm only pointing out that it hasn't happened before.

edit 2: Okay, I wasn't around for the victor, but that was a loooonnnng time ago. As for the grid iron, does that even qualify as a mech?

Not true. I know for a fact that a TBR was a prize for an event, albeit random. Also, the hardest challenge PGI has ever launched had a Victor as a reward. You had to get a Kill, an assist, live and win in one match, and do that 20 times.

I have several mechs that were QP rewards. They just have not done it in while.

To me its a great incentive to buy more mechs, so you can master one you may have won.

Yep, I have that victor. Would be nice if they offered something like that again.

They have given away quite a few mechs from challenges over the years. Victor, Thunderbolt, Cataphract, Maddog, Timberwolf, Stormcrow, Centurion, Grid Iron and a few others that were either or mechs i.e. claim either this IS mech or this Clanmech.

None of these were the rewards mechs and I might have missed some. I have been playing since a month into Open Beta.

I would have loved a custom Atlas though!

Edit- added the Grid Iron. Also as a few others have said I sold most of my free mechs for their mechbays...

You didn't get your NCIX Centurion? Yes, the Grid Iron is a mech.

I believe they are talking about getting a free mech from an event or challenge not a promo code or the loyalty reward mechs. Thus the NCIX does not qualify.

I.E. They are not talking about getting free mechs in general, just from events/challenges. The list I made are all mechs PGI has given out in events and challenges.

With 2 AC10s and some medium lasers I use for FW

The thunder bolt I kept because it had jump jets
Can't remember how I got any of the free Mechs
Except the warhawk

They give away mechs a few times a year...

Its happens more often then you seem to be recollecting.

To date i think we got TBR, NVA(? not sure), Thunderbolt, Grid Iron, VTR and im sure there is more i am just no remembering either. I wanna say a Cataphract was free one time a while ago?

That TDR-9S event was when the Thundies just released.

They've given away free champion Centurions twice so far. I have 2 of them, both won free during challenge events. Won a couple others too, not including the loyalty give aways or the NCIX Centurion.

Free 'Mechs dropped off when the challenges became much much more common.
