I've looked the skill tree over and I checked my old personal issues with the game system and here are some things I liked about it. This does not erase my current concerns with the system in my previous post here.

Weapon Skills:
  • Baseline velocity increase for projectiles - This was something I recommended. Top velocity quirks were chopped down some and baseline velocity to everything increased (though via skills instead of base velocity). So now all mechs can have faster PPCs and the AC/10 won't be a horribly slow ranged weapon. Your ER PPC Mist Lynx and Shadowcat will be less bad.
  • Baseline UAC jam chance - If they keep this, good. Mechs like the Ilya Muromets suffer due to its lack of jam chance reduction despite being able to carry 3 UAC/5s. This does not change my issue with Kodiak-3 and Dakkawolf which clearly do not need a -15% reduction, but this is mostly a mech design/balance issue. Mechs that can carry 2+ UACs can now do so without feeling like an idiot if they don't have jam quirks.
In general, weapon skills address my old concerns and that odd feeling that your mech can't do what you want it to do because it didn't have the right quirks. I hope that the velocity increases and perhaps the spread increases are kept. Note I'm biased towards projectile velocity and UAC Jam bonuses so I focus on those, but extra laser and SRM quirks are probably good for people who like those too.

Mobility:
  • From what I read, mobility is higher overall which will again increase survivability. The ability to grab some hill climb along with the generally higher values for mobility will allow experienced players to take less damage on top of their higher armor values and will make the game feel more responsive.
I think if they increase the rate of protection for fall damage and boost the JJ tree a little then it might improve the game even more. I suspect that PGI should work on JJ quirks for certain variants instead of making the JJ skill tree out of control.

I hope these changes are retained in the next iteration of the skill tree system.
