Should you ever need to knock on a door, or ring the door bell, take a bit of advice. Check the area near where you will be standing, and then take a step back after knocking on the door. This gives fido who may be on the other side of the door space between you and him which may help prevent a dog bite. Also the person on the other side of the door is less likely to be able to grab hold of you and drag you in.

The rest of the story is simply this BOoN, a little precaution goes a long ways, or should I tell you the story of where a police officer who went to check on a rowdy party got grabbed after he knocked on a door, dragged in, and beaten senseless. Every foot of space you put between you and a possible aggressor gives you greater time to react to the situation at hand. Simple physics.
