It seems to me that there are a lot of skills in the new tree, and too many are what I would call mandatory skills, ie - you MUST have these skills or you are just gimping your mech. That's not good customization. Speed tweek, extra durablility, seismic, etc. How could you not have those?
If the skill tree is shared with these mandatory nodes, that also helps kill build weapon diversity (I've read that a lot in other threads, topic covered).
I want the chance to customize with less crucial skills like hill climb, speed retention, or sensor range. Add the mandatory skills as a baseline or remove them from the game.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I like the fact that the more popular choices takes more nodes to get to and the paths include nodes that are at the bottom of the popularity chart.
My reason is that those pilots who don't require those popular choices can get better bonuses in other areas.
For example: speed tweak. A 10% gain but nodes like hill climb are in the path to it. A pilot could take a slighly bigger engine to get the same speed and then spend more nodes in other areas.
Personal example: I like playing long range, fast, jump snipers. I never take seismic. I can get more agility armor, and/or senser buffs than a pilot, running the same playstyle but feels they need seismic. Since I don't need seismic, which has often be referred to in the past as a crutch, I get rewarded by avoiding nodes that may not benifit me as much. Those who need that crutch end up with buffs in areas that are more situational.
