I think we're due for another legitimately *new* map in Feb/March. Posted Image

And PGI said they had a Mining Collective rework back in October. Posted Image

Correction: Mining Collective "Art Pass." Like what they did with Canyon, IIRC.

But, yes. Dense, metropolitan map when?

brand spanking new map, i dont want to see any more ice maps. dense urban map maybe if you set it up if it can handle invasion (as well as others). but i want to see something completely different from anything currently in the game. clinging to level design stereotypes that have been in play since super mario brothers is getting old.

I'd rather like to see them to divide the pool to make mode-specific maps. I don't think we need new maps for all game modes but I sure would like to see Domination getting exclusive ones.

The problem is... all of the screenshots and videos in this thread only show a city no larger than River City in MWO.

I don't want those cities.

I want these cities.

A new map? I bet it will be a snipefest mech like the rest. Just look what they did to one of the best brawl maps, Frozen City. It became a dull sniping affair which usually end in a short brawl. For me it is now Frozen ******. The new map won't be different because it seems PGI loves peek-a-boo

@Tarogato - these are beautiful pictures of potential city map designs but it would be an ultimate nightmare to play maps like that with the current model for collision and invisible walls like we have for years now on most or maybe all existing maps. Nevertheless i like the idea of such a map in MWO.

Mining will be revamped?

Oh dear. It's gonna be another Frozen city job me thinks.

hehe yes. Most likely with either a huge open ground in the middle which you have to cross or something huge around which the 2 teams can circle.

Like Pariah mentioned, Russ only said it was an art/visual pass, more similar to what was done with Crimson and Caustic.

Collida (a term used to describe the collision hitboxes) are fixed to their respective assets. For instance, if a certain building is used on River City, it will have the exact same hitboxes if it is also used on Crimson Strait.

What I mean to say, is that the "invisible walls" problem has nothing to do with the maps or level design, but with the people who cut corners on modeling the individual objects (or in this case I suppose they literally don't cut the corners, haha!) It's because they frequently use a tool that automagically generates a mesh according to some algorithms (probably Pro Optimize, which just reduces polycount), and they almost never fine-tune the results by hand or give any attention to detail.

Its true. I used to see more integrity in community made maps for UT2003. Collision models need to be hand made and they need to conform to the original object, as do the LOD meshes.

Just take Polar Highland, change snow tile into desert tile, plonk a few building assets randomly on the map and turn up the heat. Voila, a new map in one day.

We don't need SC2 maps with carefully balanced sides and set piece battlefield - heck, half of the existing maps are designed more for squad based shooter than armoured warfare anyway.

Can't wait till May so I can delete my MWO account.

What we'll get is 2v2 and 4v4 maps textured and injected into the game. Then a bunch of reworks like Mining Collective. I'm not holding out hope that we'll see new map ideas in the game, which is a real shame.
