You can not "split" the XP now... you do not have to pull all the HXP off in one lump sum, so if you want more than one mech you can do it after the dumpster fire takes effect.

I hope they do away with separate EXP for multiples of the same mech. It is a stupid idea. If you have duplicates of a mech they should have access to the same amounts of experience and you just allocate it differently for each one you have. When you gain exp in one of your duplicate mechs, the other mechs of the same type should also see their experience go up. If I have to separately exp up 5 TDR 5ss, 4 Raven 3Ls, 3GHR 2Ps I am going to surpass my tolerance limit for this game.

Brah. I'm sitting on 3,500,000 with my cheetah. Granted, I could buy 20 cheetahs with my quarter billion cbills, but why would I?

That is great for you. For me, who has converted Mech-XP above 50 into GXP for real money regularly, not so great.
So, PGI is messing around with the paying customers (as you cannot use the HXP for anything else than this very variant, or you could pay real money _again_ to convert it to GXP). The argument might come up that this isn't a bad move towards the customer because i got what i paid for (XP into GXP), but i paid real money to master my Mechs. Now they will be only half way through, not mastered anymore and that is not why i spent money, to have 261 Mechs skilled half way through. And if i had known that these "unuseful" XP on a mastered Mech will be of good use in the future, i would not have paid for the conversion. So, by the letter PGI has every right to do so, but they should definetely consider how their paying customers feel when do this...

You get all the XP on this variant in a pool called HXP. From there you can assign the amount of XP to each single Mech of this variant as you like for free. So HXP is locked to a single variant, but not Mech.
