Hi - I see in the keyboard controls a long list of controls for moving the spectator camera in free mode -- that is outside the cockpit and around the battlefield. But when I enter spectator mode after I die in a battle I cannot get out of the cockpit. I am guessing that is intended since apparently I can still chat and it is to prevent cheating. But then why are there all these commands? Is there a mode in which you are allowed to move around the battlefield and cannot chat with players? Thanks!

The commands you are referring to are for Spectators in a Private match. This is for casting games and observers for smaller engagements etc.

You are right that it would be an unfair advantage to have all knowing ghosts prowling the battlefield with their comms still functional. Right now, you see what your host sees. Spectating is still really helpful to learn the game however. If you want to just tool around in a map, take a light with jump jets and enter the training grounds for the map. The only downside is that spawns and objectives aren't marked.

"Spectator" mode in the case of those listed in the keyboard controls are for use with the Private Matches, and is intended for film makers to be able to make MWO videos of these natures...
