Just curious what type of game tactics we're going to see.

Should we expect more of the Peek-a-Boom type of playstyle aka WoT or more of a charge in guns blazing?
I know in reality the answer is "Depends" but as the skill level (and repair costs) go up, are we going to see more tactical/careful gameplay?

The videos I've seen have mostly been people charging at each other happily trading shots and taking hits. That to me is a little goofy as any non-Leeeerrrroooyyy Jenkins pilot will want to .. you know not take hits :)

Anyway, not a serious topic, just looking at what you guys think. I haven't played MW3 & 4 online so I have no idea what to expect.

now back to "Pending"

I think the first tactic will be the "Mad Rush ClusterF*&^"

After that, who knows.

Would love to see some expert usage of Hammer and Anvil down the line.

CLuster F*&^ all the way down unless you land with a group that knows what they're doing.

Knowing WoT you don't need high repair costs for tanks to be scared off getting hit. Seen craploads of tanks that make money no matter what they do sit scared behind a rock to avoid taking a hit, even if it's from a tank that will bounce them 99% off the time. It's human nature or something I guess.

Furthermore I think the game is changing too much atm (Russ posted about CB patches few times on his Twitter and there where multiple patches in just a few days) so most likely people are confronted with new mechs, new maps, new balances every few days, making it pretty hard to develop a reliable pattern to follow.

LOL I suppose. I'm sure it'll evolve just like player quality in WoT. It's always a pleasure to go with a group of people that support each other, utilize scouting properly etc. I guess if Russ was showing a vid and wanted to showcase the mechs, playing careful would be pretty boring to the audience.

On the other hand, in the leaked vid (the Jenner, not the hunchie & jenner) displayed some reasonable tactical awareness :)

Will probably depend on the players group and skill level.

Good groups will have scouts rush to search/find/pinpoint, support to start hitting while med maneuvers to stop enemy advance then cover the heavy/assualt when they get to the line.

If a good lance commander can get his troops to concentrate fire it is all to the better than everyone hitting everyone else.

once team/unit/merc company play is working (and games are not just ad hock units put together) tactics should greatly enter into it, till then it will probably be everyone hitting everyone with no tactics other than "There he is, eat laser!!!!!!".

I think newer players will rush headlong into the fray. As they get more experienced though, they will get a better feel for when to commit their mechs and when to hold back and use longer range attacks. Once that happens, matches should be a lot more fun and strategic.

Tactics will definitely improve and refine as more people play and unit cohesion becomes possible.

Anyone seen any indication of a "Focus Fire" button? i.e. "Attack my target" type a deal.

i'd expect a clusterfudge at first and staying that way for awhile. Sure you'll spot a group of 2 or 3 vets who played together in MW4 who work well as a team. But for the most part you'll see lone wolf hero's all over the place trying to get most kills in a drop or dudes who have no idea what they are doing just repeatedly dying and not contributing much to the drop.

The only truly organized drops will be by small groups of pilots who have the desire to win as a group and stay together and focus fire. Sounds simple enough but yet it rarely happens.

yeah communication is key, I figure most guilds/corps will be on vent or teamspeak. but chat macros will really help in PUGS

With so much poeple playing from all over the world and of all ages, we will see everything from mindless rushing, camping up to expert gameplay of organized "clans". But I truely hope we will also get a good strategic component in fighting for planets or systems.

once into the game and I know the hot key configuration, if needed I can program the macros into the key definition on my n52. But yeah, need some type of easy team chat for pickup games. This is where programmable game keys help (keyboard, gamepads, joystick/controller or mouse buttons).

Tactics I predict:

Assault rush: Assault players will charge into 5+ enemies by themselves, get focus fired from five directions, then whine about weapon/mech balancing.

Scaredy scout: Light mechs will be overly cautious and afraid of engaging anyone for fear that they'll be instagibbed. They'll hang around the periphery of the battle and only shoot at people about to die.

Elusive ambusher: Someone will decide they have devised the perfect plan for victory. They'll find a "perfect ambush spot" on the map, shut down their mech, and then spend the rest of the match telling teammates to lure an enemy to them.

Death from everywhere but above: People will spend hours upon hours trying to execute a DFA attack, and will land everywhere except on the enemy mech.

ROFL

and I'm looking forward to seeing people play in contradiction to your post ;) (though I have no doubt we'll see plenty of what you predicted too)
