I think there should be a VIP training mission.
The Escorted VIP match style is not clear to some players how to escort the VIP.
Many players don't know how to tell where the VIP might go.
The VIP seems to almost always go the same route to pickup on every map and there is no know way to change that route.
A training mission teaching about the VIP escort missions could be very useful.

The VIP takes different paths, that is the whole point of staying near it and protecting it.
I see it go different ways most of the time. That said, it's a total failure of a mode for QP because there is no teamwork.

This mode is heavily dependant on a working Team. For both sides.
My opinion: it should be disabled for Solo-Queue completely. As it is an absolutly frustrating game mode if the rest of your Team gives a sh** about the game mode and just plays Skirmish anyways. But it's a shipload of fun, if both Teams actually play the mode as intended.
As mentioned elsewhere before: PGI please split Quickplay:
1. Quickplay - TDM (Team Death Match) - just map selection, game mode is always Skirmish
2. Quickplay - Tactical - having map + gamemode selection, no Skirmish ever available

The main thing people don't get in this game mode is that you need to keep (if protecting the VIP) all the ECM nodes, if you let the enemy change these over you will lose a major advantage.
The worst thing you can do in this game mode is shadow the VIP from start till finish.
The VIP takes 3 minutes to get to it's fork in the road before it decides to go "left or right" .
In that time the defending team should be engaging the enemy stopping them from swapping ECM towers.
That doesn't work well with the peek and hide mentality of the general population.

Guarding the VIP with an ECM capable Mech is a good start too, keeping a few working AMS within Range of the VIP helps too.
Good Scouting for both sides, coordinated attacks to break the defenders/attackers. This mode needs so much communication to work properly.
Everything else is just coincedence.

I know that the VIP is suppose to take a random choice which way to go... but after shadowing the VIP to see what it does.
I discovered that it's not as random as you think. On every map the VIP is a pattern that can be easily predicted by seasoned players who know the maps by heart.
I also discover that we the players can't effect what the VIP will do at all and this is a problem..
The VIP can be in a secure area, be behind the troops protecting it..and then just turn right or left and walk out into enemy fire and die, which is stupid.
New players have NO clue how to play this style of match and are worthless in the match.. this shouldn't be that way.
All players should have an idea what to expect for each mission type.. but not with the Escort mission.

Escort VIP Tutorial:
Step 1: Follow the VIP Mech (on radar if anything else)
Step 2: Protect the VIP Mech from Enemy Fire (Yes, that means being a meat shield from time to time)
Step 3: Kill enemy opposing a threat to VIP (NO SQUIRREL CHASING! )
Step 4: ?????????? (Yeah, skill still comes into play. Can't help you there)
Step 5: Profit!

Reminds me of an amazing moment I had in a recent VIP round in the Desert.
At the very end stretch, I walked my Marauder II-C D in reverse with my back to the VIP's back, torso twisting like mad and firing everything I had at enemies that peeked out to try and shoot the VIP. I died, but the remaining enemies had no hope of killing the VIP before it reached the dropship.

#1 thing to do when Defending in Escort.
When match starts if you are Defending,
take Command if no one else has,
aim at the VIP,
hit the Command Wheel button and choose the option to Protect.
This marks the VIP with a Gold Shield on the mini-maps of all Defenders making it easier for the team to find him.

The main problem with this map is that people often split into 2 groups. One going with the vip, the other advancing past it.
The second problem is that many people think walking with the vip is a good idea. It isn't, through the flags you know where the enemies are and you should engage them asap so that they can't ignore you and shoot the VIP to pieces. I lost more games to a dead vip than by failing in the skirmish.
