Do you think we'll get any live-action FMVs?

I just thought about this. In past games, little news-flashes and updates have always seemed corny because of their canned nature (not to mention being not very well acted).
But the nature of MWO has caused me to think again about whether these should make a return.

I actually think this could add another level of immersion if there were some kind of live-action news bulletins every once in a while, instead of the dry (but still great) IS News Updates. I would love to see some of the turmoil of the Inner Sphere come to life like that.

What I had in mind was more of press-conferences, political speeches, etc., with maybe a bit of commentary. Kind of a "Six O'Clock News" view of the IS.

I think if done well, this could really flesh out the BT Universe for cheap. What does everyone else think?

I wouldn't count it out 100% but I doubt it very much. They are spending all of their time and resources into the game itself, and rightfully so.

Good point. I would rather have a great game than excellent fluff if I had to choose, but I thought it was interesting, especially since previous games have had something similar.

They have already started:
Art. Qte:
"So all of the canon, all the stories, all the references will be distributed through this community portal that we have that is MechWarrior Online in the form of news stories, articles and – this is the best part – what players do. …So this allows the player, and their exploits, to actually become part of the what’s going on in the universe. So they actually contribute to the story and the timeline of the universe."

We have only seen a part of this "community portal" so far via the ISN News Feeds. Have not seen the "Battle Feed' that is suppose to go along with current maps in action yet either.
More to look forward to.

Mechwarrior 2 : Mercs got their CGI down and right.
Simple and to the point.
No need for corny FMVs.

What they could do is a video of a "field trial" of whatever new mech they are releasing that week.

Sort of like what League of Legends does for new champions (if anyone is familiar with that game)

Of course it would need to be tweaked for mechwarrior but they could show some clips of the mech at "the firing range" and talk about the standard weapons systems and the variants available. Just using ingame footage and some commentary, it wouldn't be that hard.

EDIT: with videos here and on YouTube they could generate continued buzz for the game post release and help spread the word.

I think live action FMV would be very unlikely. The game is free, they're not trying to get people to buy it. They're goign to be trying to get people to play it obviously, and to buy new stuff (whatever that trues out to be). Live action is expensive, and doesn't seem like a good fit for what this game is gong to be.I think the most likely movie would be in the engine.

Ehhh this didn't necessarily start out as a suggestion, just a bit of musing. No one's telling the devs to actually do this; just speculation on if they would.

I agree it would be amazing and I really hope the game is so successful that they can afford the cost of employing the actors for those news sessions.

BUT

Sadly I doubt they will ... not that it wont be successful ... but I think the priority will be content, more mechs ... more updates etc.

It would be amazing though.

I think the live action vids like we had in previous MW/MC games would be fun, but I suspect the folks at PGI will be focusing their money on the game mechanics, and making the game itself the best they can.

But yeah, having the unknown actors with cheesy wardrobe, like in the previous games would be great entertainment. Maybe some time down the road, after MWO is a proven success and the devs can afford such extravagance.

a cheap but fun to watch thing might be something along the lines of those little infomercial type bits that would be playing on various screens throughout doom 3. usually detailing out some advanced tech system for a tour group, or explaining the advantages of a particular weapon to defense industry people.

Ewwww, please no! The live action parts in MechCommander and MW4 were embarrassing to watch.

Unless you can get actual good actors (which costs money), this is a terrible idea.

ingame graphics cut scenes is fine for somethings and not others, an example of not others was the cut scene for the fall of the lich king in wow, that was a important lore event and blizz went the cheap a$$ route with ingame generated graphics which was disappointing as hell....
