can there be a survival mode in mwo?
A survival mode with a scenario that your dropship has crashed into enemy territory and you and your lance will face certain death. The question is how long will you last? Survive as waves of mechs, tanks, and jets/vtols come your way. And the only way you and your lance can survive long is to fight your way to a mech factory but it only repairs your outer armor and gives very little ammo replenish. And the only buff there should be for the enemy is... THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GHOST HEAT FOR THEM HAHAHA.. But I digress this mode will be a nice change for players to take a break from PvP and for novice players that always get thrown into to the wolves when they first start in resulting from playing the game for a good while. This will also encourage players to take whatever build they want without other players shunning them.
What does the community think of this idea? Would you rather want co-op missions instead? Share your ideas among each other. Thank you.

There is a "zombie wave" mode in the Training Academy. I think with tweaks to it, PGI can make it work. It does require far better pathing coding than the Academy version though--coding being PGI's chief weakness.

As for the co-op aspect, I also believe it is perfect for people who do not wish to deal with the stress of PvP. To expand on it, one can also earn C-Bills per wave and use them to purchase turrets, ammo, and repairs.

What happens when you don't care any more and all you want to do is message pgi and have them delete ya account so you never have to return

If im sick of checking in to see the current state do you think they can do that for me ?

With MW5 coming, I doubt PGI is investing a whole lot of effort trying to write some good AI for MWO. That would be a really bad idea, from a business perspective.

Though it would make sense to port it over once the have a good one working for mw5 early version.

All these assumption MW5 will be good.

It could be the next 'Ride to Hell: Retribution' for all we know.

Heh, I'm keeping my expectation reasonably low, so it would need to be "batman arkham knight launch" level of bad for me to really get disappointed :) .

It might, however provide a good test bed for said AI.

As far as the idea goes, there's no need to give the AI "no ghost heat". Simply make them use stock loadouts whilst your lance can have custom loadouts and unlimited ammo refills.

Eventually, be it wave 3 or wave 5 or wave 15 you will get overwhelmed. The challenge would be to see how many waves you can survive.

My understanding is that they'll get much of the AI for free with the Unreal engine they're using for MW5, and they've had to basically make the AI from scratch due to the limitations of Cryengine. That's probably why they could demonstrate such an advanced AI in the MW5 teaser (although it may have been fairly scripted), yet they can't seem to make the Academy tutorial AI do more than following extremely basic scripts like "walk x seconds, use jump jets, repeat".

I really wished the single player aspect would be tied to mwo and also contain coop in the form of missions but thats not how it played out.

Russ did say that when he looked at the galactic map he saw something perfect for singleplayer and that kind of made me hope that's what he would do. Instead we are getting mw5, a lot of people wanted it so it's fine but what do you do when youve finished the story? Remember, the multiplayer part will always be mwo, Russ made sure to say that both game will stay separateso dont expect anything but a single player story and nothing else. No mods, no multiplayer, no coop, no nothing. You are not getting something akin to the old MW, you're still jailed with us.

They already have the VIP AI and the turret AI. Just put one turret in each hand of the VIP, and voila.

A grinder mode like in Mechassault was fun. But to build on that idea, how about the invasion mode maps, you're team defending (if it's a 4 man maybe cut the map in half, 12 man would be awesome but servers would go boom) Wave defence mode were increasingly harder waves come through (perhap increase in tons coming your way ie: 100tons wave 2, 140 wave 3). Attempting to defend your base.

To go even further on that idea, certain modes can include;
-one life only for you
-Full 4 mech drop deck, you die you can spawn back in (would love to see a cross of IS and Clan drop deck for it)

Gamemodes for survival;

-Grinder (mechassault)- your team attempts to survive and stick together as you move around the given map as increasing numbers of enemy mechs converge on you over time. And idea to complete or 'win' the mode is either have points you can go out and capture and eventually extract (like a longer crazier scouting mode) or kill all waves if it's not going to be infinite waves.

-Invasion defense- Waves of enemy mechs come at you (think of horde from gears of war) on invasion like maps like i mentioned above. I like the mech repair hangar idea because ammo would be a definite issue for these game modes. There should be plenty of ammo refill along with armor refill, but if you lose a torso or something, it can't be repaired, however it can repair some structure. To help this there can be the 4 mech drop deck mode for the longer type game mode. if it's just dropping one mech maybe they can repair a bit more

Enemy mechs can use the various champion/trial builds. Any mech and faction allowed to be on the survial team to help queue times.

Problems; AI aim; if all the enemy mechs are dead eye shots like the turrets in Escort then you're as sure as dead, so the aim would need various rng elements to it so they don't just aimbot your torso perfectly with a laser burn. Another one is movement. Always a hard thing to program for AI. They can't just run on a path like the Escort Atlas. They have to have a playstyle that fits their mech. Can't have a Locust face tanking and trying to lead the Ai team's push.

I love the hell out of survival/horde modes and would love to see it added to this game (or mw5 but I don't want to wait that long lel)

I hope this game has survival elements and resource management some day. Rerolls will hate it or anything that slows their re entry into the game after a ban, or those farming and exploiting multiple accounts, but it would be great for regular players.

Though your comment makes a good point on "not competing with yourself," I feel compelled to state:

If PGI invested a lot of effort in writing some good AI for MWO, or adding a lot (around 30) missions which basically mimic missions from past MechWarrior games just replacing AI mechs with PUGs, that would go a very long way in restoring faith in them. At least for a lot of us it would.
