Colossal mech are mechs over 100tons there are some at 200tons. Big scary mechs with capacity to carry the scariest weapons of every type. But are they scary as they really seem to be? If we put them in a mw4 setting they would be Gods in the battlefield just pure alpha to the ct. But what about in a mwo setting? Would it be still scary on its own still or will it be completely easy to destroy? How many atlas much can it stand against in mw4? Now how many atlas can it stand against in mwo? Let's say we do this in the 3050tech setting we are heading to will it still be scary at all? Tell me why you theorize.

Colossal mechs didn't appear until, what? The 3070s? 3080s?

Chances are we won't ever be facing Colossals in MWO or MW5, as I believe most of them are 3 or 4 legged, and MWO doesn't support multi-legged movement models last I recall. And MW5 will be set between 3015 and 3050, so no Colossals there either.

Well, there was the Matar, aka Amaris' Folly, a defunct project from Star League days, later resurrected as the Clan 100-ton Stone Rhino. Then there is the 3076 Omega.

I was joking about mw5. What I was talking about is are they still tough in mwo setting.. Not if they will be in mwo or mw5.

They'd be pretty much trash to be honest, likely in MW4 and MWO. In MW4 everything moved pretty slow so just walk behind it and watch as something half as fast as you never turns to shoot you. In MWO it'd be a big target and people would just poptart against it until it dies.

There's a point where bigger stops being better, its diminishing returns.

The Superheavy/colossial mechs in MWO would be pitifully slow to the point of being nearly worthless.
Engine sizes are still limited to 400 and with MWO's speed formula of something like 16.2 * engine rating/ tonnage
That would put something like the 150 Ton Omega at a maximum speed of 43.2 Kph using a 400 sized engine. The stock 300 would be 32.4 KPH.

you see this in a lot of 100 tonners. assaults in general usually come with a dip in performance. add another hundred tons and noobs and potatoes will flock to them seeking some kind of advantage and just gimp themselves and their team in the process. they already do it with atlases, dire wolves, and especially king crabs.

me personally i like variety. i want a mechwarrior game to go places none of the others went. so super heavies are something id like to see. but mwo is the wrong game for it. if someone were to do a spiritual sequal of mwll, set in the dark age era, in a full space to ground battletech simulator, then you would be making something truely awesome.

I personally wonder what a Colossal class mech built with Clan tech would look like. The IS ones are only a bit more powerful than Clan assault mechs, but Clan Colossi would be a whole new kettle of fish to deal with...

Oh, and technically you can actually get a Colossal mech up to 3/5 MP or Dire Whale speed. It just requires you to have your mech no bigger than 130 tons (390 engine). Maybe 125 tons for the more efficient 375? I'm going by TT engine rules here though.

Do they even get extra pod space?

The build rules pretty much guarantee these will only be good for taking concentrated fire for twice as long as a DWF. (2 seconds)

First sightings of the Ares class mech.

The other mech is an Atlas, Dark Age version.

Agreed. But it should also fire its massive array of possible weapons aswell. The attackers could get demolisher tanks and such as compensation.
