A netflix series should be viable. Who would've thought comic book superhero other than batman and superman can be such a big earners a decade ago? Game of Throne and Lord of the Rings are about as nerdy as you can get and both are now regarded as the bar to be measured against in their respective media.
The best thing about the BT universe is it's lore and history. Mech battle can happen in small doses like GotT dragon scenes or the space battles of The Expanse. I agree a movie wouldn't do the BT universe justice or make sense to anyone outside of people on this forum but a 12-episode series definitely has possibilities.

from the books i think a tv adaptation seems far more viable than movie would be. provided it stuck to the books exclusively and didnt try to impress mechwarrior and battletech player base directly ('enhanced imaging', need i say more).

Name me one cop show set in a modern day city filled with fantasy races other than Who Framed Roger Rabbit. =)
That's just the thing. Shadowrun doesn't focus on cops, nor is it set in modern day. It may be loosely inspired from Shadowrun, but it is not Shadowrun. At the same time there's already a lot of movies that use huge mechs that are inspired from Battletech, or the sources BT came from.

If anyone ever makes a movie about MWO, Robot Jox would be it.

Anyway, BT TV shouldn't be about mech battles just as GotT wasn't about magic or dragons. It should be 'come for the robots, stayed for the universe' sort of approach.

Maybe not a movie but a trailer for for mwo or mw5. Have you seen the trailer for armored core 5? It needs to surpass the intensity to make it at least as a first stepping stone before a movie.

That's because the people behind Armored Core were really talented. When they finally got out of making their proverbial mech series --- they did more than just Armored Core, including Chromehounds --- they became a breakout hit and now revered as the best game makers coming out from the Rising Sun since Hideo Kojima. These are the guys who did the Dark Soul series and Bloodbourne, What they did was take the AC formula and applied it into a knight, and you got Dark Souls.
Compare that to the creative "talent" what we have behind MWO.
AC4 has the same director as DS.
I would regard the next one as the best ever intro - trailer to a mech game.
Their latest work. Note the stylistic similarities.

The record for video games made into movies has not been very good.
Assassin's Creed -- Flop
Warcraft -- Flop
Need for Speed -- Flop
I think there are still projects for CoD and Delta 6, as well as Lara Croft. The closest thing to a success was the RE series but the bar was so low and the movies are nearly unrecognizable from the games. There might be some interest to do Gears of War but the circumstances behind Halo is now so toxic, anyone would be crazy to touch it now. Maybe there is some interest to do Mass Effect still.
I don't think the creative goalposts for games are high, compared to movie goers. What seems cool for gamers may not be cool when it hits the silver screen. A totally different level entirely. Games succeed primarily when it comes to game play, not because of their creative construction and lore.
I keep hearing about wanting to make a GoT with mechs. Why do you even want to make this, when you have GoT already? Making a series a copy of another series isn't a formula for success. Just because you want to make GoT like stories doesn't mean its going to be a success. Is the caliber of writing in BT literature anything like G.R.R.M.? GoT is going to spawn a whole series of imitators that by the end of it, people are going to be burned out and looking for something fresh.
You know what? If I got 10, 20, or 30 million dollars for a creative effort for Battletech, I would make a turn based strategy and tactics game for Android and iOS. It would be F2P but with a leveling progression, which you can shorten with premium time. With every game, you gather XP, which allows you to use more powerful tanks, mechs and other units, but to get more items, you have two ways --- you gather loot off the battlefield, or you can pay gold to buy loot. When you have enough loot, you put the loot into a container which will be randomly spun, from which you can randomly obtain mechs, vehicles and weapons. Of course you got a starter set and the shop will premium packs to help you get along.
