One of the things I (and many others) cobsider a core gameplay aspect of MechWarrior is tinkering with Mechs in the MechLab. The cost to go back and forth between upgrades is a direct hindrance to that.

I understand the initial cost, but going back and forth should be free, or at least cheaper, to promote more tinkering with Mechs. Every other item is stored in inventory, including omnipods and engines.

To put it a different way: it often feels like I'm locked out of half the potential builds for a Mech because some of them I can do for free and some of them I have to pay for. But paying for them sucks, because then I have to pay again to go back and get the upgrade all over again.

It costs 850k to go from a non-ES build on a Stalker to one with Endo-Steel, and 425k to go back. This means if I want to use an endo-steel build, either to test a new build or to play it just for a change of pace, and then I go back to my old build (for whatever reason), it costs 1.275 million C-Bills.

It makes it not fun to tinker if I'm pseudo-locked out of half my builds. On an omnimech, I may go through ten different builds in a row, because the only thing I may have to change is Artemis (and I can usually use a different Omnimech for that). However, on IS or IIC Mechs, I feel a bit punished for tinkering. Sometimes I just want to do a couple drops, and unless I average 400k income per drop, it's not really worth it to change over to another upgrade.
