SO I am a beta player. Played since May '12 to feb '15 religiously. And a couple drops in '16 Then had to take a break. It was just time. And after a year (or so) off I am back. And ready to drop! So what have I missed? Whats this year off brought that is awesome? Last I recall, The bog and Manifold had dropped, Clan wave I was out had dropped and two was around the corner and resistance was on deck. UI2 had been out... and I want to say skill tree and new mods were just dropping.

LASER build meta,
lrm intensity is elevated
some rescale's acured
II2 collection which is clan weapons on IS mechs

and a slew of changes to game play, and map selection

there may or may not be a skill tree change (dynamic game changing event )

Glad I missed the laser meta, the PPCPoptarts assault was bad enough.... Good to hear LRM is back in play, and II2 Should make for some fun builds.

I only had time to run through the first part of the academy last night, but it was fun enough. A good step in training new pilots.

Welcome back Epic Fail, that name sounds very familour however I think the guy I am thinking of is called Epicfail, but anyway in answer to your question.

the Mech rescale has helped or hurt a lot of chassis, PGI calculated the volume of every single Mech and if it was more than 0.5% out they rescaled it to make it right
That does not help every chassis, for example the Awesome was found to be the correct scale, so it recived a bit of reshaping but is still as wide as always, and the Catapult received a completely new model, and Spider, Jenner, Firestarter and many other lights are now a lot bigger, although Kit Fox, Catapult, Nova, Locust and many others are now a fair bit smaller.

most of the maps were updated last year, in some cases (Forrest colony, River City, Frozen City, Terra Therma) that included almost a complete redesign, or adding a lot of space to the maps, in others it just involved adding random accelerated time of day cycle, (including 4 timeframes, dawn, dusk, day, night), and some breakable stuff, like trees, statues ect. There were also 2 new maps added, Polar Highlands and Grim Plexus.

a new mode has been added, Escort, 1 team has to protect an Atlas which seems to have decided to spend the vast majority of its tonage on armor, is slow and unarmed, and 1 team has to escort it to the extraction zone, the other has to stop it.

PGI finaly implemented the long awated decal system. you can purchase a decal and it is unlocked for all chassis, the decal can be placed pretty much anywhere, it can be resized and rotated, most can be recoloured, and you can put something like 7 decals on each Mech.

Faction Play (formaly Comunity Warfare) received quite a bit of an overhaul over the last year;
there is now a scouting mode, with only 4 Mechs on each side, Light or Medium Mechs only, with Clanners banned from using 55 tonners.

also the quickplay maps and modes have been rolled into the 12v12 with respawns mode, although that is still seporate from quirkplay itself.

at current it is just Clan v IS, as opposed to the previous 10 seporate factions, although that may change in June when the timeline moves fowards to the fedcom cival war era

there are now diferant incentives to playing Loyalest or Mercinary in CW

I think that is most of the big stuff, but there are lots of little things I have not mentioned

edit: I forgot the Domination game mode, in domination there is a satalite dish on each map, and around the dish is a capture area, if only 1 team is in the cap zone a countdown starts counting down, there is a 1 minute countdown, when a teams countdown reaches zero it is game over. that is great on some maps, but others the zone gives 1 team a significant advantage over the other, also it is highly amusing when 1 team does a push, kills 11 Mechs with 0 loses then looses because they did not keep someone in the circle, I have witnessed that several times.
