You get 10 rounds that can be fired pretty quick then you have a longer reload.

Thoughts?

Dps would still be the same over all but you would increase burst dps leading to a lower ttk, no thanks

Obviously it can be adjusted to balance it. Dps would actually be lower since burst would be higher.

Clips? What?

Magazines. No.

No, we don't want fuel canisters for flamers either.

PGI: "We'll give you MGs with 2 DPS, but they have 100 round magazines that can jam every time they reload! Fair and balanced!"

The Enforcer uses clips: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Enforcer

Hey, if it's good enough for Sergei Simonov....

Clips and magazines? No. What I would like to see are mechs with removable ammo bins and repair bays being properly utilized in other game modes. Perhaps even a cool animation where the mech enters a repair bay and it's ammo bins visibly swapped out. I would love to see large AC ammo chains being manually loaded into breach ports or fed into their arms somehow.

Which is why I will never understand the use of external weapon systems like what the Battlemaster and the Executioner have going for them. Hand held weapons that are being held visibly by the mech. What is the point besides muh big cool guns? Posted Image

The Battlemaster, in the lore, can drop the PPC and go full melee. Hanse Davion did that at one point. It also happened to Alex Carlyle during a simulation battle in the Gray Death Saga novel Tactics of Duty.

Also, pretty sure the Executioner is not holding those lasers. Pretty sure they're extending out from the underside of the forearm.

We already have this..It happens everytime you fire a weapon. Thats what the cooldown is, a reload.

We already habe burst damage in clan uacs...Or jams for that matter.

And it will just lead to players hiding behind cover unloading
clip and goung back in cover. Even more than we do now.

Silly idea is silly.

Reminds me I once had the idea of ammo being an air-drop consumable. It makes no sense in the context of battle, but when did that ever stop anyone.

Maybe the mech walks to the air-drop powers down and is slowly rearmed by [insert thing]. It will basically double the damage potential of mechs that are entirely ammo dependent - if they survive rearming.

There's enough clipping in MWO already.

Isn't the "lunch box" in the original Wolverine art supposed to be an extra clip for the handheld AC/5? The "56th ton" if you may.

In the novels, ammunition is fed through ammo bin, and there is a delay between firing when a new bin is inserted and the old empty one is jettisoned out.

In some cases, yes. The Rifleman is a good example of the ammo bin. However, mechs like the Zeus get ammunition in cylindrical cassettes like a revolver pistol. The Gray Death Saga novel Operation Excalibur refers to this a few times.

I don't like this idea for most weapon systems but could this possibly be an idea for balancing Rotary Autocannons when they come?
