Hey there!

In the old system you needed 3 Mechs to get up to mastery. Right?

Say you mastered 3 variants, then sold 2 of those Mechs. Then you are out the XP you earned for that Chassis Variants in this new system. (Sure if you have duplicates of the same chassis that goes into a Pool of XP in the new system. But my guess is most people didn't/don't have duplicates.)

Long story short, all those hours leveling up your Mechs is lost if you sold off the unneeded variants. Well that sucks. What in this new system pays off buying all those variants and mastering them?

One case of mine is I had a Raven 2X, 4X, 3L and the Huggin. Now I have the 3L and the Huggin. I would have never bought the 2X or the 4X, but I was "forced" to in the old system.

It would be nice to have all of your XP pooled so you can spend them how you please between your Chassis variants.

Yes, No? Thoughts?

Thank you :)

Sorry, I couldn't edit the post above. In the old system you had to by 3 Mechs, in my example I have 4. I know some of you nit picky salty folks would bark about that. :)

If you have a mastered mech then surely you have played with that mech after that? If you have, you will likely have a lot of XP for it and can easily get all the skills required. I have many mechs like that, most prime example is my only remaining Mist Lynx, it has nearly a million of XP.

If you haven't much played with the mastered mech, then with new system you can still continue to ignore it.

I certainly haven't earned a million XP points! :)

My feeling is, if you maxed out 3 Mechs in the old system, that should help you out to maxing out (at least) one Mech now. So if you bought a Mech pack, then moved on, you could pool all the Mech Variants points into one Chassis.

I sort of agree, but this should only be true for the Historical XP you'll get when the system is implemented.

Fairly certain that is exactly what he means.

Kind of agree...or at least I agree if the system currently before us goes live. In such a system a lot of IS mechs are nerfed to such an extent that their variants are nearly identical in terms of quirks. For example look at the Black Knights. Yes two still have minimal PPC quirks but everything else is the same. Similar situation with Crabs, wherein their various energy quirks are a mere 5% as the only quirk distinction of the the chassis. With such mechs I intend to pick the one with the best hard points or other notable feature (the Crab SL which has jump jets for example) and likely dump the rest. It would be nice not to lose all that XP and instead be able to apply it to the single variant that I am keeping. Unfortunately PGI is not going to allow this sort of chassis XP pooling because then folks could just double (or triple) up on the "best" variants and thus reduce diversity even more than the skills tree already does by itself.

seems to me that it would be simple to convert all XP into GXP on the change and have done with it.

Yes, group HXP per Chassis and not Variant. I'd like that too

I had a rough time trying to figure out the right terminology for this post. And you nailed in one sentence! Nice and succinct :)

I hate PGI so much.

PGI Then:"Please, play variants! In fact we'll MAKE you play variants by enforcing the rule of 3!"

PGI Now: "Please, don't play variants! In fact we'll PENALIZE you for playing variants by enforcing C-bill costs across every one you own!"

Schizophrenic much?

Also we'll punish you hard for having bought all those variants! Enjoy!
