Final concept on the experience and node system before PGI locks the PTS down.

If we assume we're heading towards a system where each mech, as opposed to each variant or each chassis, has its own Mech XP bucket:
  • Use Mech XP as you would experience points in a typical RPG. Each mech passively accumulates XP as it is played.
  • Like a typical RPG, at certain XP increments your mech "levels up". Each level increases your available SP by one point. XP is no longer spent -- it only serves to earn SP. A level 30 Hunchback has 30 SP to spend. Substitute "level" with something more Battletechy.
  • You can increase your mech's XP with converted GXP.
  • Skill nodes are unlocked for Cbills or MC only. The Cbill cost can increase to offset the lack of Cbill cost for acquiring SP. One unlocked, skill nodes should be free to toggle on and off with SP, i.e. free respec.
This concept is agnostic on the number of nodes, amount of SP, or XP and cbill costs, and PGI should adjust them as necessary for their business model. I would much rather see higher up-front costs than an indefinite grind.
