So, for my own amusement,

I calculated the spread radius' for Lrm's in their different iterations, as they are now and with the new -5% bonus that will come from maxing out missile spread in the new skill tree.

I figured, seeing as I went to the trouble, I should probably share this number crunching with the community.

I based my calculations on these base values, rounded to one decimal place. The larger value is always taken first in spread math(s). The skill quirk is taken off the base spread value first. Also, Narc and Artemis do not stack.

-33% Artemis bonus
-25% Tag or Narc bonus
-5% Max skill quirk bonus

I hope this is of interest.

Without skill quirk

BASIC LAUNCHERS or INDIRECT FIRE

Lrm 5 - 4.2m
Lrm 10 - 4.2m
Lrm 15 - 5.2m
Lrm 20 - 5.2m

TAG or NARC

Lrm 5 - 3.15m
Lrm 10 - 3.15m
Lrm 15 - 3.9m
Lrm 20 - 3.9m

ARTEMIS

Lrm 5 - 2.8m
Lrm 10 - 2.8m
Lrm 15 - 3.5m
Lrm 20 - 3.5m

TAG and NARC

Lrm 5 - 2.4m
Lrm 10 - 2.4m
Lrm 15 - 2.9m
Lrm 20 - 2.9m

TAG and ARTEMIS

Lrm 5 - 2.1m
Lrm 10 - 2.1m
Lrm 15 - 2.6m
Lrm 20 - 2.6m

With skill quirk

(BASIC or INDIRECT FIRE) and SQUIRK

Lrm 5 - 3.9m
Lrm 10 - 3.9m
Lrm 15 - 4.8m
Lrm 20 - 4.8m

(TAG or NARC) and SQUIRK

Lrm 5 - 2.9m
Lrm 10 - 2.9m
Lrm 15 - 3.6m
Lrm 20 - 3.6m

ARTEMIS and SQUIRK

Lrm 5 - 2.6m
Lrm 10 - 2.6m
Lrm 15 - 3.2m
Lrm 20 - 3.2m

TAG and NARC and SQUIRK

Lrm 5 - 2.2m
Lrm 10 - 2.2m
Lrm 15 - 2.7m
Lrm 20 - 2.7m

TAG and ARTEMIS and SQUIRK

Lrm 5 - 1.9m
Lrm 10 - 1.9m
Lrm 15 - 2.4m
Lrm 20 - 2.4m

Yes, tag and artemis really is that much better than indirect fire.

And more manly.

Wow that's pretty amazing! While I'm no lowlife lrm boater ;) this is really very interesting data. Just last night I got WORE OUT by a guy boating LRM 10's with Artemis & was amazed how quickly he cored me.

I appreciate you putting the time & effort into crunching these numbers.

Thanks mate x

Oh, and pro tip Posted Image Lrm 10 with tag and artemis is the sweet spot, especially if you can get 4 of them. As you can see from above, it puts them at about the same spread as Lrm 5's with artemis, which is as tight as you need to go.

But don't tell the lowlife boaters or they'll all be at it. Posted Image

For a long time now I have been using Artemis LRM 10's or 15's with TAG for this very reason.

The speed that you can core someone out is quite a thing to see.

Like in the King Crab 0000 or the Cyclopes 10 Q. (or the Atlas S but never run an atlas with LRMs or admit to it).

Aye, that Kjc 0000 with alrm 40 plus tag and three larges is THE mid range dominator, forget about using the earrings........I mean the arms. It's a flat turret on legs.

King Crabs with vanilla lrm 15's deserve to be team killed though, they really are just bad builds by bad pilots.

Hoverlurmer-llC-B with LRM70+TAG+LPL is always lurming from 400m away from action.

If teams lasts long enough for me to get there.

Has there been a change recently? I can't find anything in patch notes. As far as I was aware it was only narc and artemis that do not stack.

Tag and Narc do indeed stack. It even say's so in the gameplay tips on the loading screen (so it must be true, right :P)

Tag does not work in the testing grounds for some reason, so it may appear there to not stack if you are testing narcs.

For the ULTIMATE Combo...

TAG + NARC + Artemis + SQuirk + Inherent Spread Reduction Quirked Mech...

-33% Artemis bonus
-25% Tag or Narc bonus
-5% Max skill quirk bonus

33% + 25% + 25% + 5% + (between 5% and 20% mech quirk)
....dun dun dun...

I do know that NARC and TAG perform better than simply NARC or TAG (and it's shown above in the numbers too).

Tops out at 108%. Though in reality it probably has a strictly set limit.

Yes that would be totally rad!

Unfortunately, Artemis and Narc do not stack.

Best values would be,

-Quirk, -5% Squirk, then -33% then -25%.

I'm not sure whether the quirk or the squirk comes first, but the values are so low I doubt there is much difference.

This "between 5 and 20% mech quirk".. Which mechs have that high native spread reduction?

I am asking, because I am looking now for the heaviest Heavy (I don't want to make assault a LRM main carrier), that has the highest possible accuracy for better effectiveness for CT..

Though does it really matter? How much would be the difference in those percentages, for actually hitting side torso/arms, compared to head/CT?

Am not sure these days. But look at techs with native lrm use and they tend to have missile spread reductions.

Strangely the less it spreads the more likely you will hit legs and ct. They won't try for head and often avoid it.

Wasn't there some note from devs recently, where they stated they changed where missile hits to counter lights?

That is correct but that was recent. You are quoting me from January some nearly 4 to 5 months ago.
