Hey there. Just a few impressions regarding the newest version of the skill tree. don't wanna discuss them, just throw an opinion out there. you wanted feedback, here it is Posted Image

First off: I like the new skilltree-model. I'm not convinced that it'll solve the problems between different mechs, but that's something different altogether.

the good: the new tree is better overall than the first, IMO. while it still caters to boating, the "too good stuff" has been toned down and other stuff was made tastier.

the bad:
it still not where I'd like to have it;
-the weapon tree has WAY too many nodes. I'd like to have fewer with maybe a little more 'oompf' in them.
-boating is still VERY much better. not only in the game, but in the nodes; 91 points are not nearly enough - and I like that fact. makes for hard choices. but it's so much easier for a boat of any kind to get the max out of the nodes they grab than for a mixed mech. example:
a srm-timber can grab many stuff he likes quite happily; the same timber with missiles and ballistics has a -way- harder time optimising things and has to NOT take a lot of other stuff.
a build that's near the lore, say a timber-c or god forbid a timber-prime... the poor guy has it hard enough already. your skilltree punishes him further.

the ugly:
on top of said boat-preference, there are many nodes NOBODY likes to pick, but has to.
again: I'm for hard choices, but at least you shouldn't be punished for choosing the road you take; move "arm reflex" and other stuff to the sides for those ppl who like them - and give the rest of us an easier path to follow through.

the skilltree, nice as it is, does NOT solve the problems a bad chassis has; that's hitboxes and weapon placement most times. do something about that, pls.

conclusion & suggestions:
yeah, I like it. but it is really not at the point to roll it out. you'll make quite a few ppl unhappy with that tree, so change things here and there. there are enough ppl here who have explained things way more detailed than I can - try to listen to them. you wanted feedback, so please use it :-)

suggestions:
-"better" but fewer choices in the weapons-tree. encourage diversity, NOT BOATING. can't stress that enough.
-away with the "forced choices" give us alternative routes and/or something we pick more happily.
-on the different chassis: maybe give some extra-points to a chassis that does perform just not as well as others. that's at least a stop-gap.
-last but not least: PUBLIC TESTING is good. do it more often, maybe even constantly. and listen to your customers; like in the game: Intel' is for free, yet a most valuable thing to have.
:-)
