Not before clans get a decent Assault Mech with EC... *looks at MAD IIC-D in the Mechbay* ... fine, go ahead.

Screw the meta. There's lots of non-meta mechs in the game so I see no reason why we can't add it just as something fun to play.

You are in the wrong thread, then. The question was about what the IS need and it was framed in the context of performance.

well honestly i think IS needs to stop being picky. Much of what we have is sub par. Do we want PGI/Alex making more new mechs just to suit the needs of the meta?

Unnecessary, there are existing 'Mechs which can suit that need just fine. The problem is that we are being inundated with nostalgic garbage that is physically incapable of competing across the way. Even non-compatitive players get on here to kvetch about Clan-IS balance, and part of that equation is the 'Mechs.

Nostalgia sells almost as well as sex does.

I'd love to see these existing mechs.

Ask and ye shall receive. Ignore the Lights, those aren't actually better than what we have now but were included just so nobody would ask "what about Lights?" There are no better Lights.

Are there truly "no better lights?"

Also i'd love if all of those mechs were in.

There really are no better Lights. The Locust and Javelin will cover all of the bases, and if it weren't for PGI's rescale the Firestarter and Jenner would still be great, too. The new tech coming this summer doesn't change much since most of the useful additions are concentrated at the heavier end of things. ER lasers could be good, but only if they don't run as hot as the sun (which standard isMLs already do on unquirked Lights...so that's a foregone conclusion).

You mean ER Mediums could possibly be good.

"ER Lasers" in general implies that the ERSL is involved, and that most certainly has a 0.0% chance of being good given the baseline of the current SL.

ER Large is useful...it's just not new.

So lasers is still technically correct. I win!

Since the ERLL has been in the game for years, I don't think it really counts when theorycrafting whether or not new tech could be good. :P

Real talk, though, the SL has exactly one role where it has use, and that's in a pair as a poor-man's supplement to MediumPulse thanks to its short duration. On a fast Light with lots of Energy hardpoints, you can do a lot worse. The Firestarter actually gets to fit more JJs/DHS if you swap out 8xSPL for 2x MPL + 6x SL. You lose a little bit of heat efficiency and marginal damage but gain a lot back in range.

I play CW daily, so it affects me enough to make me write this post. According to your logic, Clan vs. IS balance should not be even touched, just because it affects CW? That's dumb train of thought.

And it is not a good mech. That's important distinction.

I want good IS mechs, having no BT lore, history, books or TT (didn't I know BT even existed). I'm extremely bias again nostalgia for nostalgia sake... just want fun reasons to play IS (and clan for that matter).

My mech bays are roughly 50/50 split of IS/Clan mechs... but I overall I have played close to 2/3's of my games in clan mechs... and if it wasn't for cicada's it would be close to zero at the moment.

The rifleman 7m might work. Its within the timeframe jump and even with no hardpoint inflation at all it has 7 energy and 2 ballistics harpoints. It does however hinge on whether lite gauss gets in or not (stock loadouts and all that)

Heavy ppc with 15 fl DMG could be really great for the IS in general but of course the Rflman.

Since this thread is about a strong mech I'd say the Dragon Fire for not in game chassis and the Tbolt 7SE (ecm, JJ and ra gauss) for in game chassis.

That's kinda the point. The IS has abunch of nostalgia mechs but few that are competitive. I'm not against the Avatar, I'm just hoping for some better mechs that match up with the competition.

Some people do have fun piloting competitive mechs. Shocking, I know.

I like good robots

Though, I also like the Viper...I honestly don't know if the Viper is a good robot.
All I know is that it's the Best Light in the Game!
