Speaking as someone who is a "cheapskate" (i.e. mech-rich, module-poor), if the C-Bill cost was applied once per chassis, instead of once per mech, it would be somewhat bearable. For example, I have every non-loyalty Stalker mastered. So let's say the first Stalker (in this case, the 3F) is 60k C-Bills and 800 XP per node. On my 5M, it would cost 0 C-Bills, but 800 XP per node, because I've already paid for the skills in the Stalker chassis.

At the same time, duplicates of a variant should only cost 400 XP per node.

While I think that 0 C-Bills entirely would be better, this would be a pretty good compromise, because:
  • PGI has stated that the only time the cost is going to seem excessive is at launch. Most of us who are Mech-rich have multiple variants. If I only have to pay C-Bills to skill up 20 Mechs of the 80 I have mastered, because the other 60 are different variants, then it would make it a lot easier on me.
  • It would make it worthwhile to get additional variants, because the skill-up cost for another variant is cheaper than for another chassis.
  • It would make it more palatable to get a second Mech of the same variant if you so desire (or to level up duplicate Mechs).
  • It would somewhat simulate the design on live, where a module purchase can be used in multiple Mechs. In this case, purchasing a skill on one Stalker lets you get a C-Bill savings on the other Stalkers.
Overall, this would make the numbers on initial launch a lot easier for most players to deal with, while still making rule of 3 a thing of the past.
