It just occurred to me that the new tech is going to make experimenting in the mech lab a blast. So many options to play with. So many new things to try. New ways to make old mechs unique. etc.
THIS is the kind of thing players of this game like to do with their clicks.
There has got to be a way to create a skills tree interface that mimics this kind of experience. Wherein each node or each branch is a thing of potential fun to try and make fit with your mech. As opposed to a 91 node chore of getting through a maze where at the end your left wondering what did I just do.
Anyway just something that occurred to me.
Thought maybe some of you would have ideas here to make the skills tree choices as much fun as the new tech choices and do it with a mech lab style interface. Do that and I think the UI and theoretical NPE might just be a heck of a lot more pleasant.
Given PGI's commentary I think they are not open to changing the nodes themselves or the gated aspect, so the goal is to keep their structure and just make it not such a mess and make it fun to engage with. There has gotta be a way to do this.

Click and drag through nodes with various beeps and boops to laugh your way through while doing so.

Well. I was thinking more like click on a mechs arms the appropriate and available arm/mobility nodes show up in a pop up window. If available they are green, if gated behind something they are yellow, if the mech is not equiped with arm weapons they show up red and cannot be taken (hint, hint PGI). That sort of thing. If a an energy weapon is present and you click on it in the mech loadout screen the same sort of window pops up with energy and general weapons nodes that are available. etc.
We all spend lots of time in the mech lab doing this sort of thing with weapons and such, why not make it so there is a skills tree overlay in the same format. I just gotta think that would be more intuitive and enjoyable while still maintaining PGI's theoretical goals.
