I'm looking for a lighter "boat". A kayak maybe....

So I began in the trial stalker... it was awful, my stats reflect that, and I was basically a wasted assault slot. However I did peg down that with my connection, and my past gaming experience (Guildwars, Skyrim with an xbox controller, and knitting while I watch someone else play Assassin's Creed), that LRMs are the bestway I can benefit my team at the moment, and I do love this game. ♥ So I purchased the Archer ARC-5W. I have it chain-firing, I love it, and my stats are SO much happier - though improvement is still needed. And although I only have 11 kills in 20 matches with it, I have gotten many assists, and that gives me the warm fuzzies. (because warm fuzzies and mechs should always go together ^.~)

I would like to move up from heavy to medium, so that I am even less burdensome to my team. What should I be looking at for my next purchase?

Also, would I be more useful if I took my armored body (present ARC-5W) deeper into the fight chain-firing SRM streakers instead? Mind you... my reflexes are still not great, though I do practice moving in the trial grounds before playing - but nothing tests you quite like a fast little blighter coming silently from behind in a match. -.-

Trebuchet and Kintaro are both good choices for a medium LRM mech. Personally I like the Trebuchet but that's more of a lore thing than anything I've seen in game.

For IS, the Griffin does come to mind. It can go reasonably fast, has jump and can get reasonable missile slots. There is even one with ECM. Use it as an LRM skirmisher. (AKA: You dance around your opponents, using your speed to maintain distance.) The Kintaro does also come to mind, as well as the Treb.

Another chassis for IS tech to look at is the Hunchback 4J. Two LRM10s and 2-5 sm/med lasers with a head TAG, and it can work well as an "in the team" mech. Reasonable with LRMs, but will have enough close in weapons to protect itself when needed. Can run a little warm.

If you are looking at Clan mechs (if you don't know the difference, please just ask), I could recommend the Huntsmen rather easily. The P variant has 4 missile pods in the arms. Just add in some side torso omnipods with some energy mounts for protection (and maybe TAG), and it should work reasonably. My LRM Huntsmen is the A. (Armor is not exact.)

The Adder can actually work well for a light clan LRM mech. Get the A or D and switch a couple of pods so it has 4 missile pods (if desired). From there, you can take a single energy weapon in the CT, I recommend the ERLL personally. My Adder A, if it helps any. (Armor is still not exact.)

For IS light mechs, I know of a friend who's used a Commando with ECM and LRMs. Used his speed to maintain distance and run from anything that could threaten him. The trick here is, don't stand still. Stay on the move, and stay near your team. (Generally good advice anyway.)
