I have been noticing an interesting trend, between group queue and Pug or solo queue.

In group, there are seldom large groups, as it limits the tonnage too much, so groups are dropping in 2, 3, 4 mans rather than full teams. What happens is anyone that attempts to call the match is often not listened to. Each group says we know what we are doing and we are going where we think we should! So the outcome is often not good, as you can imagine.

In Solo queue I have been calling matches and it is like magic! Often the whole or almost the whole team listens. Most of these matches turn out well, as we act cohesively like the game is made to be played.

From what I am seeing this is due to two things. 1. the advent of voice in the game, making TS less useful and the problem with large group tonnage restrictions causing seasoned team players to choose smaller drop groups. Since they are often on their own TS server they are ignoring anyone that attempts to manage the entire team.

Just interesting. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this or if they have any observations.

When I used to play I called matches all the time. But then idiots began to breed, and the quality of PUG games went downhill. Stomps and rolls were common, and were never fun, whether I was on the winning team or the losing one. So I stopped playing.

What I notice is the small 3 or 4 mans trying to tell the big 9 or 8 man what to do. Follow the larger group and there is always a larger group.

I don't necessarily agree with groups dropping in 2-4s just for tonnage, but I do agree with group play not listening to match calls. I tried to call matches in group play one night, in every match for several hours my groups pretty much did the exact opposite of my calls, and died horribly over and over for it.

In Solo queue usually most people listen. You'll have a few people off doing their own thing, but the majority of pilots in solo respond well to orders given.

I guess the funny or weird take-away here is that PUG games when called, seem to have better team play than games full of players (Grouped queue) that should know better to work together but do not. It is essentially the reverse of the way the game worked when Team Speak was the only option for communication.

Yup, I find this annoying as well. It takes a special kind of person to see a 8-9 men team of a unit spamming griffins and say on voip: "allright guys, this is what we are goin to be doing, we are setting up at range in *insert random grid, pls follow us*"

Sometimes the groups keep their tactics to their own chat servers, and then act surprised when the pugs do something different. If you want to play certain way, use the in game VOIP to let the pugs know too.
