EDIT: I am updating this post to show my progress in my leveling challenges. I'm adding to the thread to share my tips/experiences in leveling the target Mechs. (Please note, I don't expect you to find this fascinating... Posted Image. I'm just being thorough with closing out my post.)

---

Now that the Skill Tree is Postponed™, there's no longer any need for me to grind 57,650XP on my best Mechs.

So I need to set myself a new goal.

Here are my options:

a. Buy another two Phoenix Hawks and level them, so that the one Phoenix Hawk I already bought can be leveled beyond Basic. (Note that I didn't particularly enjoy piloting that Phoenix Hawk.)

b. Buy another two Linebackers and level them, so that the one Linebacker I already bought can be leveled beyond Basic. (Note that I did greatly enjoy leveling that one dual-PPC Linebacker. However, there doesn't seem to be many other viable loadouts for Linebackers.)

c. Buy another two Huntsmans and level them, so that the one Huntsman I already bought can be leveled beyond Basic. (ERPPC+Gauss Hunstman is kind of fun, albeit a bit slow.)

d. Finish Mastering my first Trebuchet. (Note I have three of them all sitting only Elited. I did enjoy Eliting the LBX10+2LPL TBT-7K.)

e. Finish Mastering my Loyalty Blackjack 2L. (Note it's the only Special Mech I haven't Mastered. Because it's crap.)

f. Finish Mastering my first Rifleman. (Note I have three of them all sitting only Elited. I didn't particularly enjoy any of them.)

g. Finish Mastering my first Catapult. (Note I have three of them all sitting only Elited. I didn't particularly enjoy any of them. 2AC5+2PPC CTP-K2 might be ok, however.)

h. Finish Mastering my first Awesome. (Note the 9M is kind of fun.)

i. Buy my first Commando. (The super-quirked missile version seems like fun.)

j. Buy my first Cyclops. (I'm not really a fan of Assaults, but the SRM splat Cyclops seems like it would be an interesting experience.)

Your advice...?

I'd go with e) Loyalty Black Jack. No particular reason than it might be possible to do something with it when MRMs come in and it is one of your choices that don't require spending cbills, which you are going to want to hoard in anticipation of new tech, etc.

Thanks. I was thinking along the same lines.

Plus, then my Master Leveling Spreadsheet would be all green in the Blackjack row again, LOL.

Grrr, it is such a terd (sic) of a Mech. But I should just get it done.

I -out of a pure refusal to accept historical precedent- still think a skills tree will happen at some point soon so I am still trying to get all the mastered mechs I care about to 15,500 XP over mastery, so that when they change the numbers again I can piss and moan about it.

Do the BJ-2, check out that short video of MoltenMetal owning faces with it.

I have enjoyed it.

Thanks. I tried:

2ERL+4LRM5 (which was beneath my dignity so I stopped LOL).
2LPL (which was just an underpower version of the meta) and now
4SRM6A (which has the limitations of a splat Griffin, plus less tanky).

I'm thinking your STD version with 2ML+4SRM4 might be the better idea.

Urgh. Playing on Oceanic where the only maps that ever get selected are long range LRMtardfests.

Going to try ERPPCs so I can get some shots in before the potatoes all die. At least it will be fun.

Ok, so I finished leveling my loyalty Blackjack.

It was a bit of a chore frankly, even though I picked the fun loadout of 2ERPPCs and 3 Jump Jets. (Just not enough DPS to carry a sack of potatoes.)

Anyway: which objective next?

The Awesome, or the Cat. Either one. I am intrigued with the idea of a Cat with MRMs and an Awsome with snPPCs.

GO with A and B. Should be fun as I have both and enjoy the time I spend leveling them. My Linebackers are almost done to elite. Still have a way to go with the Phoenix Hawks I got.

HAVE FUN!

Riflemen, while their quirks are still hot.

Commandos are surprisingly fun, a scrappier alternative to Locusts.

Of the ones I own, I enjoyed;
1B with PPCs - that torso mount is pretty high
2 with MLS or MPLs - the ECM really helps
3S with 3x LPLs - either stick with a large engine or lower it to take MASC

I did enjoy playing mine. Some not-completely-terrible options;
UAC10 + LPL in the shoulders
Gauss up top, 3-4 ERML (on the B, I think)
Use both 3E torsos for standard 2x LPL 4x ERML laser vomit
4x SRM4 + 3 ERML on the D

Love this Clan Medium 'mech, probably more than my HBK-IICs or even my beloved Shadow Cats! A few suggestions;
2x UAC10s in the shoulders
4x SRM6 shoulders + 3-5 SPL arms
3-4 ERML shoulders + 4x SRM6 arms
2x UAC5 shoulders + 2-5 ERML arms

LEVEL ALL THE THINGS! Posted Image

Don't forget, I'm a potato tier pilot, so YMMV!

Updated to show that I finished two of those objectives.

I think I'll try and Master a Rifleman next.

My Catapult K2 is cursed. It has a win/loss ratio of only 0.4. Every time I try to level it I get potato carry after potato carry. Maybe I should try to level a meta 3LPL Catapult instead.

Rifleman. Enjoy them now, before the skill tree eliminates what make hem good-- the quirks.

40% ballistic velocity is nothing to scoff at. Neither is 50% PPC velocity. Nor the extremely high ballistic cooldown on the rifleman 3N. But it was underwhelming in the PTS after quirk reductions.

My experience with the K2 is similar. Tried the AC5 2PPC. Nope. Tried 4LL and 4ERLL. Nope. Last night I gave up on my ERPPC build. Now I'm going to try the 2AC10 and 4ML build, that I often see people having good luck with. I hate the thought of it because damnit the K2 looks so good with PPCs and it seems a waste to lose the high hard points with measly MLs, but, well, if it works, it works.

Im just doing the flat mastery without overhead. After 21k i want to change mech when i play for grinding purposes. Thats enough to get seism/derp and the perks to keep the mech cooler. Mech i like alot already have the overhead xp.

Yesterday i started looking at the R2 mech i dont play like the crab and BK and i did the basic without upgrading them lol. Stayed on shs and no upgrades beside weapons/engine lol. I hated that they were all energy and i wasnt going to pay cbills for that. The crabs are playable with shs(1.3 dissipation), i think im gona do that tonight.

I love all the Cyclops, the 10Q is the easiest and noobiest of them. Very easy to get a good score with it but the novelty wear off pretty quick. One weapon type with 2 weapon group to keep the spread smaller, less than 300 range... No mather how bad you do you still end up with tons of damage but it gets boring real fast. The other Cyclops can have fun and varied loadout so when you get fedup with srm pukin you can fall back on the others.

If you arent an Assault kind of guy the Cyclops will be good for you. It can be fast, mostly xl friendly, its agile and if you get scared of xl it has a good enough hitbox to go slow and enough firepower to get people to look the otherway. And if you're a real manly man.. have insanity episode, you do like i did last night, you strip a Sleipnir, load it with dual gauss, dual LL and the biggest XL you can fit and you go balls to the walls. Its exciting, just dont make it your default loadout or people will wiseup and remember you.
