How's the Assassin?
DOA?
OP?
Has anybody managed to make it shine with a max engine?
Can it soar like a Viper?
Can it sting like an Butterbee?

So, Uh, Did The Assassin Come Out Today?

Seems okay. Reminds me of a Cicada and a shadowcat. It's definetely not DOA. It's going to be upper mid tier in terms of meta.

If you go to Meta Mechs and see how they rank tier 1 being highest/best to tier 4 or five being horrible then I would say the assassin is probably tier 2 maybe a variant or two will be tier 1.

Sounds like its super popular. Especially since the 4 SRM4 build got nerfed.

I had six matches since the patch, and the Assassin seems to be a rare Mech. Usually no more than one per team, if that many.
Thus I hardly had the chance to meet them and assess their strengths and weaknesses when fighting against them.
For PGI's sake I hope the lack of Assassins I witnessed is not representative for the sales.

If I had more self control I would have refunded my Standard Pack after seeing the SRM4 nerf. Instead, it just prevented me from picking up the collector's pack.

DOA, in large part due to quirks. 10% cooldown is not enough to make it competitive with heavily quirked IS mediums and the weapons that walk like a mech clan mediums.
Take the 101 for example. You can toss an xl 380 in it with 4 medium lasers, and it's basically an under-quirked, 3x the size, no-ecm pirate's bane.
Locusts backstab better, cicadas brawl better, both are generally faster(Most builds I've seen run at 110-120 un-tweaked) the only thing it really has going for it is poptart potential, but that kinda loses its flair when it fields 2 ppcs and doesn't have the hardpoint placement to capitalize on poptarting(One variant has one energy hardpoint above the waist the other ppc is center-mass).
I can only see it being viable after the skill tree with the new tech, but even that's an unknown and it's nearly impossible to predict what will be good when those two changes hit.
