Actually after playing more i am really enjoying it now. It is rather tanky for a 40 ton mech and the weapon loadouts are pretty fun.

I mean, it brings a missile based zoom and boom medium mech with jump jets. That profile alone is technically new for the IS, and currently only exists with a brawlfit Shadow Cat. While I do not pilot IS mechs, I see a lot of potential in the one that can take 4 SRM launchers, as it does remind me of my 'Cat, very closely, and it tends to perform well enough. Going pure splat, it would be a solid little brawler in Scouting Mode, or if you needed to trim tonnage on a CW Invasion deck, but didn't want to give up brawling.
More importantly, it looks fun to pilot. This is a game, right? So the innate enjoyment of piloting a chassis should mean something, right?
A lack of ammo really hurts on any match you do well in though as most only carry 4.5 tons which you run through fast. Its really not fun when you run out.

Edit: The arm mounted energy weaponry is also very vulnerable but it can roll off damage to the torsoes/ct very well..

4.5 tons is plenty for scouting mode, though. I find some mechs really shine in that mode, whereas they cannot quite get their traction in normal gameplay modes.
