Usually, my games are uninspiring. They are fought well, but the outcome, win or lose, is determined usually 2-3 minutes before you reach the conclusion of the map.

My unit mates decided to hop off early for the night, so I solo dropped a scouting mission set on Caustic Valley. My teamates dropped in a Hunstman, and two Hunchback IIC's. With our side set to gather intel, I chose the ever trusty Arctic Cheetah with ECM. Predictably in a pug drop, my teamates brazenly charged the all Hunchback foes in an open field and got slaughtered. I however was collecting intel, and after seeing they all perished after suggesting not to engage so freely, I found a little nook between two rocks near their original spawn point and powered down. I kept track of the timer on my phone, and cranked the bass on my headset up to hopefully hear their mechs plodding footsteps. They were nearby, and the Dropship announced it was on it's way.

I powered back up, poked from my cover to see two patrolling the valley I resided in. I noticed they were traveling different intersecting routes, and guesstimated the right time to try to slip between them. I was lucky. Hunchback number one was out of sight out of mind, but the second altered his path, and I ducked behind a rock pillar in time before he noticed me and quickly snaked around his backside no more than 15 meters away. The drop ship was roaring over my head as it flew to the landing zone. I headed for it, realizing I still had a minute on the timer so I found a hill with rock cover to sit behind. I crested the hill, and there were the other two Hunchies just on the other side. I walked back down and sat still, praying to Kerensky I would go unnoticed.

Much to my fear, the previous two Hunchback's had returned from their patrol to secure the drop zone; looked like they intended to wait for me and leg me as I sprinted for the win. One joined his buddies, I was still safe and out of view, but the latter Hunchback had come up behind me ( I knew I was a goner). BUT! I was out of his cockpit's field of view, and my ECM kept me from showing up on radar. The pilot was easily with arm's reach as he trodded past me. I took a sigh of relief as I saw the countdown timer was at 5 seconds, so I hit the throttle and jump jetted over one of them and landed with one second left. Sweet sweet anxiety riddled victory.

Hopefully you enjoyed this and please share your "Did that just happen?" moments. I'd love to hear them.

Been there done that. This is why I find scouting so enjoyable. One player can make a difference in any match -- both gather and protect.

Now, if they come out with another similar mode with 8 vs 8 -- I'm in there too.

Its annoying when people dont work with what most of the team wanted to do (brawl) and cause them to all die in a 3v4, might have won if it was 4v4 you going for backshots.

Really annoying as defender having killed 3 enemy mechs at the 13 minute mark then having to wait 11 minutes searching for someone hiding.

Congrats on playing the objective, would 07 if it was worth more than dying and moving to the next scouting match and saving 11 minutes. But its not, did you even do enough damage for 50 match score for a loot bag ?

I only did about 38 dmg, so no I did not get a loot bag out of it. We already agreed to split up and get intel. I was already too far to come back and assist otherwise I would have adapted to the brawl game and came in to clean up. sadly I was on the other side of the map when they engaged without calling it out.

i remember one game where i got disconnected from a match. upon reconnecting i found my team dead. at least they got some damage in first but hadnt managed to kill anyone. i them proceeded to annihilate them one by one. they spread to look for the dc and i had an absurd number of srm tubes. as boring as the scout mode usually is, sometimes it produces unexpected results.

Yea...well actually ppl like you are the problem.
Sorry to say it this harsh but thats the way it is.
He won the game, was usefull for his faction by doing the scouting job and actually secured his team way more money and XP than they would have gotten when he tryed a pointless 1vs4 standoff just getting butchered.
You get more rewards when you're winning you know ?

And advocating 3 tools rushing in and getting beaten up by a 4 hunchback premade is ... well its sponge bob.

Not always, you dont earn much cbills when you do 0 damage, and could have completed 2-3 drops in the time he spent in 1, which I outline in previous post would have earned more than that 1 win.

While true. I don't care about c-bills. I only care for the clans to claim terra. Call me a loyalist.

i use that strat in a 4 man quite often. 3 to hold them off and get in damage while i secure intel and the dropship.

I love scouting for intel...when the scouting team knows what to do. Last one I was involved with, the guys knew (we were defenders, used my Nova as a Med ER vomit Mech) and it was fun that time. Other times when we were gathering Intel, team mates wanted to brawl while I wanted to gather intel and plan my exit to the drop zone at the right time. To date, I have only achieved that ONCE. I should note I freelance and I guess that's what you get when you freelance with others?

Congrats on your game play and win!

^come try the frr ts server. Scouting in a 4 man is actually pretty fun, and theres normally at least 1 scouting group goin, even when there isnt an invasion 12 man, the scouts are normally there.
