Hello all.

Ive recently returned to the game after being on a break for a while (been back about a week now)

In the few days Ive been back I decided to buy the Linebacker standard pack – the reason being I liked the idea of a fast heavy.

At first I struggled with them - dying quickly, low damage etc – but that was probably a combination of returning player inexperience, unskilled chassis, finding builds that work for me and generally working out the style of play to use with a Linebacker. Good positioning seems to be the key.

Ive found that it plays best as a fast striker – hit and fade sort of thing. Ive also found it tanky enough to support a push and quick enough to skirmish with lights. In fact Ive sometimes found myself out of position and in a spot of bother only to find I get good support from the light Lance and turn their rescue into an impromptu push with the lights skirmishing around me.

Now that Ive been playing them for a while (just finished Basicing them) Ive found them to be a very stong Mech – although Im still a bit frustrated with the Prime – Ive tried 2 ERPPCs with a SRM6, with 2 SPLs and with a MPL and I find it lacks oompf – along with heat issues.

What Im surprised to see is the lack of Linebackers in game. Generally I am the only one on the team. I agree they lack the outright punch of other heavies, but they seem to be very versatile whether built as a min/ max range Gauss & 6erSL or a 7 (or perhaps 6 I forget) MPL hitter.

Is the Linebacker seen as a sub-par chassis, is it its lack of outright firepower that turn people from them or is it just that most other Heavies just fit the role of “being a Heavy” better?

Cheers

Really?
From my experience Linebackers are pretty popular.

Definitely see them every other match.

Seriously... When was the last time you saw a Kintaro? Or a Trebuchet? Maybe a non-hero Commando?
THOSE mechs are not many around.
Linebackers are a plenty.

They are surprisingly strong, I prefer them over the timby for sure.

Without the Redline right torso and C left torso your options are limited.

I've seen dozens of them today/tonight, they can take a little punishment and are really fast.

Rarely see them TBH. And if I do, they are easy to take down. Nice and wide.

Hence why I probably don't see them much. Occasionally in FP I will, but usually only on conquest.

I bought one Linebacker to see if I would like it

It seems OK I will continue with one until I have enough XP for elite it then I will buy a second
Linebacker.

So lately I bought one night gar, one Cyclops, and one Linebacker

Out of those 3 the linebacker is the only one I want to buy more variants

Ive bought a couple of pods to whilst trying to find builds for my A and B.

Im still trying to make the Prime work for me with PPCs using the PPC quirked pods at the moment. If all else fails Ill try something different.

I see Linebackers fairly often, personally. I don't think they're that unpopular.

For me, the major problem is that PGI brings out mechs faster than I can level them,...
I refer to the 100+ matches thread. I only have a handful of those as I constantly leveling mechs. I for one would drive my LBKs more often otherwise

I have grown to like mine more....part of liking them is to realize they are "situational" mechs. In FW they are quite popular in Conquest mode (especially on bigger maps), where you need that speed more....however, outside of that you will not see a lot of them in FW. They are a 65 tonner with the speed and firepower of a 55 ton Stormcrow. They do have good agility buffs and brawl better than the crow though...but on most modes it isn't enough to justify the 10 tons in the deck

The Prime for me is my favourite. I stick with two ppc's, targeting computer and as many heat sinks as possible. The speed and heat efficiency have made it a better performer than the Hunchie IIC for me despite all the advantages the Hunchback has over it. Admittedly for most people this wouldn't be the case but I have become particularly fond of hit and run ppcing and drive by ppcing.

I, like you OP, got the Linebacker for a fast striker/brawler. For me it does what it's supposed to. Movement quirks are off the charts, and with the right omnipods you get armour quirks, so it's nimble and tough.

I've seen plenty since Thursday, when your principle weapon is SRM's on a 40 ton medium, you tend to take more notice of what your facing.

A fair percentage were streak carriers, I guess people went out their way to try ruin the Assassin pilot's weekend ;)

question:
how many times do you see a victor or highlander and how many times do you see a linebacker?

I see them pretty often.

My favorite build is a UAC10 in the right torso and 4ermediums in the left torso. Good mid range flanker. It's a decent loadout. I find the loadouts on linebackers are similar to summoners. Just build around popular summoner builds and you'll find something that works for you.
