I experience unplayable lag spikes almost all weekend... is this a server issue?

Most likely on your end. Maybe a lot of peeps on the net clogging traffic.

Tons of players on has effected performance but it hasn't recently. Although a couple months ago it was extremely busy.

Yes, I've experienced worse than usual lag spikes, but most people I've talked to have only noticed slightly worse pings or nothing at all. I have Time Warner Cable and they seem to have issues with MWO servers (more precisely the sub-networks between me and the MWO servers), but it tends to get a lot worse on the weekends (probably due to increased traffic)

try restarting your computer, mwo uses epic amounts of resources and has memory leaks.

a reboot usually makes it smooth again for a few hours
