I know it gets a bit old for me, get a bad match and suddenly it's time to trash talk. Sure it sucks, it sucks to have a bad game, and it sucks to be the cause of said bad game. But for sure this weekend i hear more than my share of rantings. Though i will say i did have a bunch of really fun matches too.

But perhaps a new slogan?

Get potato, Make potato salad..

In the end MWO needs more folks, maybe then the MM can work better.. But if potatos are grinding your gears.. Maybe try this to calm your nerves instead of lashing out at all the innocent potatos. MMMk? https://www.gog.com/...s_were_in_space

I'm completely fine with dealing with team full of potatoes. Slightly harder to do so when I am in a Light or a Medium. Which is why I prefer heavier chassis.

Most of the time I don't care enough to bother, taters are a fact of life with the MM system and population size. But yeah, I'm going to be a little snarky if I'm outdamaging our assaults and heavies in a Locust. Everyone has those occasional bad moments where a single poor decision gets you burned down by two lances of enemies.

That doesn't happen frequently enough to cause 3+ assaults and heavies with <200 damage in every single match. If you're consistently ******* up, try playing a different 'mech or style. Though at the end of the day it's only occasionally the stuff like the KDK-3 hiding on a hill 800m from the fight, the lurm Atlas, y'know-the poor build choices and cowards not armor-sharing. Most of the time it's long strings of stupid decisions.

Every time I get salty enough to say something, it's either because I was last man alive and vastly outdamaged my team, or I stuck around after death to help call targets and was fortunate enough to spectate someone making dumb choices over and over. It's ******* frustrating to put in your best effort and go beyond that, and then see people with weapon loadouts which mass more than your entire 'mech managing to throw themselves away in the most blindingly idiotic manner possible.

I think people are underestimating the power of not giving a ****. If he says that you're a worthless potato, just keep silent and move on, or report and move on. Simple. Of course it's not constructive, but neither is feeding the fire.

Hey I suck and make bad decisions as much as the next "potato" but for the love of god please would people give directions at the start and during a battle instead of only moaning after half the team is dead.

Rarely does anyone take the lance or commander leader position thing apart from to annoy us with sound bleeps... /rolls eyes

Low scores happen even to comp players.

What annoys me is seeing your team mates actively engaging in potato like behaviors like long-range lurming a target that is in a tunnel, or leaning on their lurms at under 100m even when they have a couple of lasers. Or hiding when their team has entered into a brawl. Or just running in too soon and getting obliterated by 12 enemy mechs and then complaining about it.

Tier 5 players should stay in tier 5, then everyone is happy, this is on PGI.

The reason people stop/dont command in QP is cause some people on the team dont listen/follow the called commands. Very frustrating for DC's when that happens. DCing only works when the whole team listens and follows.

But...Potato is already used as a less offensive means to express frustration

Would you prefer Terribad be brought back into full use?

This.

Honestly, the gameplay isn't that difficult. The only thing the DC should really need to do in QP is say where the enemy is, the rest should be self evident. If the DC says the enemy is massed in E7, then nobody except maybe the Lights should be all the way on the other side of the map in J11. There also shouldn't be any one single friendly in E7 about to get pounded. Common sense says to find a choke point with decent cover and then ambush the enemy when he tries to pass through it. If you are losing your trades, do not keep trading. Move somewhere else. If the DC says the enemy is split look on your minimap for the red icons and advance on one of them, because even if all they do is blip you still get a sense of disposition and if they are split and you are not, numbers favor you.

F*cking. Duh.

And yes, even a map like Polar has chokepoints. They are anywhere the enemy has to cross openly without concealment to get from where they are to where they want to be.

What's the problem?
Try to be the potato king.
The potatoest of all potatos.
The pinnacle of potatoism.

I can tell you that it would be hard work. This title has to be earned.
Start today!

And who gets to decide who is the potato any way. There will always be someone worse.

Kinda of like "there is always a bigger fish", in reverse.

I sometimes turn around to see my team of mechs has turned into this gif. Meanwhile I am in the background complaining about my bleeding backside and drowning in blood;

Then the problem is when the drop caller is a potato. Too many potato callers on an event weekend have lead the teams to quick turn around rounds.

Tonight's example: Had 1 potato giving (tactically stupid) movement orders right from power up. I hinted he talked too much. He kept talking while complaining his stalker needed help because it ran too hot and not only still giving poor movement commands, but following his own orders blindly... the rest of the team was smart enough to not solo charge the enemy deathball.

16 damage points the potato caller inflicted upon the enemy lines before bravely sacrificing himself as a live fire target practice exercise.

I looked him up after the round... Sir Potato (not his name) had 31 rounds this season, 30 deaths, no kills and a sub-100 per round damage average. At least now I know his name and I know to mute him early. Even a potato should know with stats like that, it is not a good idea to assume command.

Ever go to a potato field? It's quiet. Potatoes are quiet. Potatoes have eyes. Potatoes should be quiet and watch things.

Besides, regarding the trashing of potatoes...

Ever grow a potato?

You throw it on the ground and toss manure on it... Every time it grows up a bit too much and pokes out, you bury it down under more compost. The bigger it thinks it is getting, you are still bigger than it is, and to nurture and cultivate your little potatoes you need to help it along, by applying generous amounts of fertilizer so you can help it grow into a big potato, because it grows better with your help, and your fertilizer. If it is doing ok, you don't need to fertilize it.

So make sure you give your potatoes loads of manure... it helps them grow.

I was levelling my new Mad iic's this weekend and spent a fair few matches rolling around in the bottom of the basket with the potatos.

I generally find that the potato callers are themselves potatos and just trying to blame others for it.
