Well, at the time of this post, I am just a bit shy of 250 games...
I am a Potato and doing Meta builds only has helped so much. I recently procured a higher end computer, which allows me to take a very different approach. I am recording my matches and posting them on YouTube. I would ask anyone so inclined, to watch them and give me constructive suggestions... I don't mind roasting, as long as it is actually amusing and useful.

Are you using a Standard engine? I haven't finished the video but I tried to recreate your build in Smurfy and running 64KPH leaves me with 8 and a half tons still.

Just finished the video, you shut down WAAAY too much. You almost died because of a light mech behind you.

SCORCH

More ammo, less heat, higher DPS.

LBX10 > than LBX20 in most builds because of heat, cool-down and spread.

Given the option on a DWF or a KDK 3 I'd take 4 LBX10s over 2 LBX20s every time.

A good rule of thumb is 1 ton of ammo per 4 tubes. So if you have 16 tubes you should have at least 400 ammo.

Always take a cXL when you can, they survive torso loss.

You alpha'd 3 or 5 times with SRMs not hitting because they don't have the range. SRMs explode after 270m so there is no point in shooting them when the enemy is 300+ meters away.

2 x lbx 20`s and srms. Interesting is that the vanilia build of a scorch?

By the way you do exactly what I am trying to do LESS.....you see an opportune target and then run off after him lol. Having patience and restraint to not always run out in the open is actually a big thing.

Overheating is also never good. I know this is probably not too much help but I do the exact same thing often, trying to get out of the habit.

Too many years of FPS games like battlefield and call of duty lol. Cant 360 no scope lolwut here.

This might be of interest for you!

Baradul makes in general good videos for learning the game.

After watching the video:
- Improve your build
- Dont tunelvision so much, use that minimap
- Dont rush in for kills, move with your team (but dont stop a good push, aggressiveness wins games)

I am using the 340 engine and standard armor.

Love the input everyone! I have been watching MoltenMetal and Suggles Time, but the watching and the doing? ...yeah... I need to adjust the weapon groups and get the SRM Range and LB-20-X Cooldown Modules. Right now, I trying to save my GXP for Radar Deprivation.

Anyways, I am still getting my computer setup... editing software, a good mic... etc.

The plan is to redo these videos with a voice over explaining (and crediting) your feedback. I have already learned a bit from several seasoned players looking at the vids and I am making simple adjustments to my play style (adjusting the Weapon Groups and such)... other parts of it are going to come with practice. Hopefully with your help I won't be such a Derp.

Thank you all again, and if you are inclined, I have a number of videos on YouTube that need roasting, I mean, feedback. Look for Knight DeGaulle

SCORCH

More ammo, less heat, higher DPS.

Might want to use the 355XL instead and dump the extra half ton into leg armor--Some people know well enough not to fire into the blackhole that is the Marauder Torso.

Scorch

Scorch with LBX10s? As a brawler? 600 rounds or SRM, too much ammo etc etc. You'll never use it.

LBX20 is the way of the scorch. Best brawler for tonnage in the game right now.

Are you playing a different game? I play a lot of Marauder IIC(-A) and cannot remember the last time i got legged (~60 leg armor).

Scorch

Oh....so that is the reason behind it. I was wondering since I got my Mad IIc's, why I get legged that often. Thx for the explanation!

I can assure you that in no other assault I get legged regularily, but on my Mad IIc's......and I speaking of max armor in those legs.

One of the things that will help is getting your weapon groups set up properly, then mapping stuff like consumables and advanced zoom to your mouse if you have extra buttons.

About weapons groups, if you have a major weapon on each arm like your lbx's use left click for the left arm, right click for the right arm. This lets you not waste ammo peeking around corners and also increases your heat efficiency. Also you want one weapon group for chain fire like on that scortch you could use group 4 or 5 with the srms on chain fire. So when your close to overheating you can just fire one at a time. Heat management and pacing is a big part of this game.

Something else thats important is the ghost heat system, its the reason why many IS build have 3 large lasers while clans only have 2. Take a look here for the details when building a mech.

Also one way around ghost heat is using weapon groups to break up your firing into groups that don't add ghost heat. Like the SRM maddog, people break the 6 srms into two firing groups of three each. So you fire, wait about 1.5-2 seconds and fire the other weapon group.

Heres how my mouse is setup.

About that mouse setup. You do not have to specifically assign "Coolshot" and "UAV". Just bind the buttons to "consumable slot 1", and "consumable slot 2" so you can mix match your consumables in any order without rebinding your keys.

Don't use clan SRMs without Artemis unless you plan on facehugging EVERYONE you meet. The spread without Artemis is really bad for clan SRMs, especially 4s after the nerf.

You need moar ammo, too.

Be mindful of your approaches. Be aware of how much of your mech is not blocked by something, and pay attention to where the enemy could see you from. This will minimize the damage you take and maximize your lifetime as a brawler.

You overextended when engaging the main group there in the water by the citadel chasing down the archer, which let people eat into your back armor. Worse, you shut down like that. Remeber; some targets aren't worth chasing, and sometimes it's better to look to the guy's friend that didn't back away with him, as LBX and SRM is far more effective up close anyway.

Use the clan XL engine for clan mechs unless it's the quad gauss kodiak 3. There is no reason to take the standard engine 99.9% of the time with a clan mech.

Its not the build nor the computer - i see an eager pilot hungry to get snatch a kill blindly chasing targets around corners into multiple enemies and overheating in the middle of them...

I suggest to pick a medium mech like a hunchback and work on your positioning, movement and brawling, avoiding to tank too much damage before you move up (or down) in weight classes.

Cheers berend

Take your time and place your damage. I see a lot of over-eager shots that are out of range, against unfavorable components, and even against dead targets. When you are running at the heat line, don't fire everything, fire your most heat-efficient weapons (LB-20X in this case) or hold for a moment; lower DPS is preferable to no DPS, and you can't put out any DPS when you are shut down or dead. You let that Urbie get a lot of free damage into your backside; if that were a more potent Light like a Locust or Arctic Cheetah, you would have been dead right there.

Work on your situational awareness, too. When you got in under 180 meters on that Archer, you should have turned your attention to a more demanding target, like that Urbie working your backside or that Hunchback over your left shoulder. Use peoples' builds against them.

Work on your positioning. Atlas swinging narrow on a dedicated push, take the outside with confidence as you are likely the faster 'Mech anyway. As it is, you hesitated and let him sponge more damage than necessary, which could have ended badly as those four 'Mechs could have focused instead of panicking and running. Also know the maps and where your 'Mech can fit; getting stuck under that bridge could have cost you a lot of armor on that torso, but the enemy was too busy panicking and you got lucky there, too.

You didn't answer the question of whether your 340 engine is Standard or XL.

XL is lighter, and Clan mech XL engines (cXL) do NOT die when you lose a side torso so ALWAYS go cXL.

I don't care what armor you take, some builds can fit FF and some can't, it doesn't make you any more sturdy it just saves you a half ton or whole ton.

Use the metamechs build. You can pack more ammo and have more DPS with less overheating with LBX10s instead of LBX20s.

The Scorch runs an XL

I may consider LB-10-Xs after ATMs are released. right now I am working on my Situational Awareness and Firing Discipline. As well as where my 'Mechs can and can't fit on the Maps.

I am compiling your points right now, going to make sure everyone gets due credit. Thank you again!

I had some help with another video, but that person didn't want credit... for your consideration, I present the following:

edit: My edit of the op video is complete and I think I have cemented my format for the Vids. So, If you all would be so kind go back to the op, and please, re-watch the vid.
