Question everyone:

I never bought Clan Wave III, and with the 20% off sale I'm thinking about buying the Cauldron Born pack, or maybe even the Gladiator pack (mostly for the premium time). Is it worth it in your opinion? From what I've seen:

Arctic Cheetah - pretty good mech, at least the Prime, which I got in an event a while back. If I already have the Prime is it worth getting the rest?

Shadow Cat - seems pretty good?

Ebon Jaguar - on-par with Timber Wolf? A good heavy.

Executioner - crap mech

Arctic Cheetah and Ebon Jaguar are best choices. Even if you have duplicate mechs, the Prime version you get will have C-Bill bonus. Scat has its niche use, but not a necessity.

Gladiator pack is worth it for more than just the premium time:
- 2017 top tier loyalty reward
- Executioner is a decent mech; if nothing else provides additional weapons & equipment
- Extra faction & bonus content

All for only $24...

Not sure where you're missreading the price... its $24 OFF the $120 price... not only $24.

Well math was never your strong point:

He is buying the Cauldron-Born pack @ $72; he wants to know if the Gladiator pack @ $96 is worth it.

$96-$72=$24

or

$96
-72
------
$24

I am afraid I cannot help you with 'Common Core'...

I have regretted within a week every purchase I've ever made with PGI, but I regret the Clan Wave III Cauldron Born pack much less than the others. ACH is a fun little beast, SCat is fast and jumpy, the EBJ is one of the most forgiving heavies in the game for non-Heavy players, fully recommend it over the TBR in any situation that does not require jump jets.

But that's just me.

Actually all of them are pretty good, including the Executioner. Why is the Exe good? because if has a high energy mounts, jump jets, and most of all masc. In an assault mech masc is pretty damn good. It allows you to get to cover faster, stay up with team mates and ultimately get into the best position possible sooner for an assault mech.

Um, as long as we're getting pedantic, he's asking about both--whether the Cauldron-Born pack is worth it to begin with, and also whether the Gladiator pack is a worthwhile upgrade.

So while you're partially right, you're partially wrong ;)

Gladiator pack qualified for loyalty reward in 2016. I'm guessing that makes it unlikely they'll count towards the 2017 rewards structure.

The executioner is a interesting mech, seems a bit slot limited and has a lack of ballistic and missle hard points. Its arms are knuckle drggers a bit and every build that fits always seem way to hot. Its a good mech in the right hands. Honestly all these mechs reward skilled pilots. Unseasoned pilots will struggle with these omnimechs.

While the only one being pedantic is you, I am full aware of that. I simply am not going to waste even more time explaining it to him when he cannot be bothered to follow the conversation to begin with.

That is not how top-tier rewards work(ed).

Light pilots seem to truly love the Cheetah and it is typically regarded as one of the best light chassis in the game so you should be good there. The shadow cat is a fine medium and a solid addition to a drop deck because it is fairly light weight and can fill in if you are looking for a 75-75-45-45 split or a 65-65-65-45 split (incidentally 3 EBJ's and a shadow cat makes a solid drop deck), and the EBJ is a great heavy. I have had much more fun and much greater success in the EBJ than in any Timberwolf variant. IMO the EBJ is better than the Timberwolf despite being 10 tons lighter.

Can't speak to the executioner from personal experience, but to give you an idea of how often people play them I was in a game the other day and I saw some one with a tag i didn't recognize, I had to ask what the mech was associated with the tag only to discover it was some one piloting an executioner. Almost never see the executioner in game so probably not a great mech, but i have no personal experience with it.

first 3 are good, with the EBJ and ACH being significantly better than good. But you still see plenty of Scats for a reason. EXE is not great, but it does seem to click well for certain playstyles who seem able to do nasty things with them. Still in the world of KDKs... the EXE is more likely to get Executed than give an Execution.

Good point--perhaps "condescending" was more accurate.

Fair enough--I wasn't sure if it was restricted to content released in that calendar year.

My only issue with the SHC and EBJ is that they are inherently great laser boats, so they don't get much quirks, and that means all the interesting looking ballistic and missile mixes they can do are a bit of a waste since neither mech can tank like the competition.

If you like high alpha laser poking though, this pack is full of win.

You don't have to laser boat though , I like to run mine with Dual UAC10's. With some laser backups.

I like it to. Its just hard mode though. Because you will get wrecked by another EBJ with a 50 point ranged alpha to one of those UACs as it sits 5 pixels above a ridge-line. There is no contest unless you can face tank it alone, hope it spreads damage so your CT isn't blown away before they overheat and that your UACs don't immediately jam on you.

You will also likely get wrecked by cataphracts using a couple of AC-10s and meds thanks to the big armor and ballistic quirks they get. I ran that build the other day and even took on a few MAD-IICs with it.
