Having a lot of fun with an UAC 2 build on my huntsman and was looking to do give the Night Gyr a shot but i was wondering if i should just keep saving and do a UAC build with the Dire wolf.

if there are better mechs i would also be willing to use one of them.(CLAN or IS)

For happiness, go with the Night Gyr.
Both make UAC/2s fun, but the Night Gyr has some speed to go with it.
You can get 6 ballistic points using specific arm and STs. There's a little bit of a choice so if there are some arm quirks go for the right arm with the better ballistic quirks.

Sample to toy with.

Dire Wolf sample to toy with.
UV parts are behind a 25 dollar paywall.

Crap, the JK parts I used for that Night Gyr build belong to the 15 dollar hero (after getting the 20 dollar Night Gyr 3-pack). You can use "B" left torso and left arm instead... only 4 UAC/2s then, but still a lot of fun.

But for 6 or more, unless you wanna open your wallet go with the Dire Wolf. If you can settle for 100 tons and 4 ballistic slots, go Kodiak 3. Yeah just go with the Kodiak 3. (A heck of a lot faster.)

NTG. One of the top mechs. DWF's best days are behind it.

I third the Night Gyr, while it is still too slow for my taste at least you stand a chance of being able to keep up with the team, which the Dire does not.

90% of the time the Dire Wolf will only work if the team is supporting you, the Night Gyr can work without dedicated support

Night gyr... 6xuac2 is one of my favorite builds to play atm :)

Direwolves aren't so much fun these days... slow, low arms, poor mobility.

Edit: (I definitely enjoy the 6xuac2 night gyt over my 4xuac2 huntsmen, which I also like to run).

Personally, it's a lot of fun to run a 2x UAC10/3x UAC5 DWF out there and just throw slugs at other mechs until they fall over dead.

But, as others have mentioned, DWF's best days are behind it. It's still a formidable mech, but there are better mechs for almost everything it does.

If you like cUAC2s, the Ultraviolet can boat 8 of them, with enough ammo to get some work done.

I boat 6 UAC 5's on my DW UV & it is great fun but yeah you are better off with the NG. I only play my DW in group play. In pugs its Russian roulette. Sooner or later you are going to get left behind & a measly 20ton mech will eat your lunch.

Night Gyr for sure.
As mentioned before the Direwhale is too slow for solo quick play. It easily falls behind and gets eaten by lights.

Since your Huntsman is very versatile, you may also enjoy the Timber Wolf. You can almost play it like a bigger, more badass Huntsmen.

Night Gyr, and ive never even piloted one before.

Dire's are an acquired taste. Very hot/cold in Solo, you are somewhat dependent on Map/objective/Spawns.
Bad spawn+NASCAR = how fast can you think on your feet and how much do you like gambling on cutting through the middle of the map?

I keep mine because they are fun but, they arent the OP Assault anymore.

You can do 6UAC2 on a non-pay Gyr like THIS

You have enough ammo for around 1000-1200 damage if you can aim decently well.

Less if you can't. Works well.

It is a better idea to learn to play heavy before trying an assault.

Another thing to consider:

if at some point in the future you decide to do faction play - you can only bring one direwolf to your dropdeck - and doing so, already severely limits your choice for the remaining 140 tons to divide over 3 mechs.
On the other hand, you could comfortably bring two night gyrs and have 90 tons left to spend (two mediums, or heavy light combo)

if that isn't enough to convince you to pick night gyr then consider that 100% external heat transfer will really help you manage heat in hotter maps (tourmaline for instance).

Oh - don't forget that there is a lot more mobility on a night gyr too.

Thank you for all the responses, when it comes to solo or group play I'm almost always doing group so support is not an issue. Not sure if this makes a difference. The main issue I have worth the gyr is it can only fit 6 UAC 2s but not lbx out standared ac. Something that after more playing I find to be far more effective for daka in almost every way. The UAC can only get a slightly higher fire rate without jamming(.007s ) bit the lbx and ac can sustain damage for longer without overheating. Lbx so far has become my favorite. The extra critical chance is nice but hitting enemy mechs with 2x the number of projectiles is absolutely great for suppression. I should also probably add that in looking to fill the suppression role primarily with dps being secondary to the 8 ballistic dire wolf isn't of much interest. My unit loves brawl mechs and I'm trying to support that by being able to make it hard on enemy teams who want to poke as we close in.

From the responses I'm almost certainly going to get the gyr but I wanted to add that incase there was more I did not understand

Or actually as one mentioned would getting the Tiber wolf be better? It's the same speed as my huntsman as well as the same 4 ballistic but more armor and ammo or is the slower higher dps gry still better?

When massive LBX-Dakka is your thing, and you do group play then i guess the Dire Wolf gets interesting again because afaik no other mech is able to carry 6 LBX-ACs.

But because your group likes to brawl you should ask them first if they can live with a slow whale. They will probably have to slow down to enable you to help them.

On the other hand, maybe you can also get happy with only 5 LBX-AC on other mechs which are faster (like the Night Gyr)...

I haven't played that much with the Night Gyr, but i guess they both will do the job. Personally i like the lower profile and higher speed of the Timber Wolf more. But if you favor firepower more then you can get more out of the Night Gyr because 6 ballistic hardpoints are more than 4 and the slower engine allows for more payload. So as always it's a question of preferences... Posted Image
