I am just curious where we are at on the skill tree update that is supposed to be coming? I have been out of the loop for a while and cant find a good summary of progress on the skill tree.
Is there a release date yet? How is it looking overall?

May as per previous communication from PGI. Its gotta come before June as the new tech depends on it anyway for balance etc.
So god knows what we will get, there isn't enough time (in PGI terms) to fix the poor thought out idea that was Skill Tree.
Likely plenty of hot fixes/patches from June until probably October

what about our elited and mastered mechs... will they go back to having 0 skills? or will they be mastered in the new skill tree system as well. will they give us mech xp back? or do we have to grind back all our mechs :S

Having to run older Mechs a bit to re-master them was never an issue for me

What makes you think the new tech is coming in June as advertised this time?

But that's not bad, since the skill system we have now is soooo much better than the skill tree revamp^^

Read the reddit posts about the skill tree. People had legitimate problems with it and I agree with them, it was garbage and shouldn't have gone live.
The problem I had most with the skill tree was that if I get a refund for the 30+ mechs I've mastered I'd only be able to remaster a handful of them instead of all 30.
I have a few dozen modules, I've spent over 100,000 GXP on skills and upgrades. I deserve that time to mean something. We all do, our work shouldn't just count for nothing because they changed the skill tree.
Another problem is the fact that you can't get the level of power you're at now with the skill tree. With quirks and the current tree you can have Advanced Seismic Sensor, Radar Dep, 2 Weapon modules and all the bonuses from the skill tree. With the new system there is no way to have all these bonuses like we do now on our mastered mechs.
We shouldn't be losing so much power. I liked the durability tree and they should keep that.
Another thing was the filler nodes, the 2.5% Hill Climb nodes that are in the way of good nodes. It happened everywhere in every tree. You were forced to take a node that does nothing for your build to maximize your bonuses.

Russ is part of the problem....a large part in my opinion. He would do himself a favor as well as the rest of us if he just cashed in his chips.

You worry about your 30+ Mechs and yet want a system that would allow the Cherry Picking the ALL the Best stuff directly that will ultimately lead to just a handful of your stable of Mechs being useful at all. Those being the ones with high gun mounts. Everything else will be dust bin material. But no worries. As long as "you" get what you want, everyone else can just get off at the next stop. I hope you brought a friend as playing MWO solo is not quite as exciting, even with the only Meta Build that Tree of yours allows.

We've been over all the reasons why the skill maze was a staggering failure of game design. But, sure - continue to ignore the mountains of facts and instead toss out childish names, like "crybabies."
And if PGI never cleans the skill system up with a properly developed replacement, that's their fault, not the fault of the people who - rightly - pointed out the glaring problems with the proposed skill maze system.

Exactly. PGI took something simple that simply needed a few tweaks and choices and managed to turn into a 91-shades of grind maze of false choices and gated "skills everyone must have." End result - more time to grind per mech, respec penalties (which have no business in a game like this), all so you could end up getting the same skills on nearly every mech anyway. It was a staggering failure of game design, and that's not even factoring in the lunatic proposal of de-leveling people's mechs and forcing them to regrind their existing purchases.
Despite the defeat of that horrible skill tree proposal, we're still stuck with white knights roving around the forums, free of facts, blasting everyone for opposing the skill maze. Because we're to believe "change is always good" and "you should just suck it up." I'd love to see those white knights try to run their own business with that attitude - they'd go under in a month.

I have a different theory...
We dont see ANY of this in MWO, but we see all this stuff we TESTED live appear in MW5...
Just a tin foil thought...

Man, you are so smart.
What a well thought out rebuttle, Russ is the man in charge. Good luck convincing any CEO, Boss, etc. that he just need to hand over his money and go away.
Keep dreaming dude, Russ may not be the most intelligent person in the world when it comes to game design but he did manage to get you here in the first place didnt he? And i see you havent left?
must be pretty good then
