New River City. (Because making entirely new maps is expensive and hard!) This update will transform River City from one large island and two smaller islands into two large islands, with a bridge, and a few smaller islands surrounding and in the center of this new map. Players will be heavily encouraged to brawl within the center most isle of the map, or turn left and enter the city.
For greater immersion (and because it's cheaper) the bridge connecting the two large islands will only allow 1 mech to cross it at a time. (2 Locusts, maybe!) This will provide a chokepoint for each side to protect, should they choose not to brawl it out in the center most isle of the map or turn left.
This redesign will also make River City much larger, approximately 80% larger than Polar Highlands, and with approximately 5,782% more cover from LRMs. (They've listened to our complaints, sort of.)
Domination. For once, the domination point will actually NOT be in the center most isle (or point) of the map, but will spawn in one of fifteen to seventeen random locations and will *not* offer a significant advantage to either side. (It will, almost every time, but stay on your isle and be grateful for the new map!)
Conquest. Two of the points will be on either island, with the final point, Epsilon, will be on a far away isle in the lower right-hand corner of the map. (It looked better on their end, and it's too late to change things now!)
Assault. Both base camps will be on opposite sides of the map on one of the small isles, and players will spawn relatively close to (within 3 minutes at 81 KPH) of their base. Lights will spawn further from them, and Assaults a bit closer.
Skirmish. Either cross the bridge and fight at this cleverly designed (hastily made) chokepoints OR go LEFT into the center most isle of the map!
Center Most Isle of the Map. Because it's come up so frequently, we've dedicated an entire paragraph it's description. It's a small isle with rocky terrain as cover on either side, just enough for Hoverjets™ to scale!
Destructible Terrain. New with this map is destructible terrain. Every building, rock, tree and squirrel unfortunate enough to be in your weapon's firing arc can take damage and be destroyed.
This will presumably lead to less hiding behind cover, more combat action, and a higher TTK.
What does everybody think of the "new River City"? Isn't it a "Brilliant Idea" with "Potential"?*
*New River City may not actually be in the pipeline, under production, or even a gleam in the map designers eyes. Intelligence reports should not be taken as absolute fact, even when stated otherwise. There are no intelligence reports, or, at least, they're not very intelligent ones.
