You get a new chassis and it rocks left and right, getting really awesome KDR and then 20 matches later, everything starts going downhills and the magic seems to disappear... anyone else experienced the same? Why is this so? New chassis get some ninja perks?? Anyone felt the same way?

Success causes us to relax, relaxation contributes to complacency, complacency creates mistakes, and mistakes get us killed.

Couldn't say it better. I often suffer from that syndrome.

It's a normal human perception thingy. As time moves on, the more pleasant expericence ( a good game) will be the benchmark which forms your expectations. Every time you have a better experience the benchmark will rise even higher.
Naturally, as time and games keep on you will not be able to fullfill the benchmark and thanks to your perception you will start to remember the "negative" experience (still good games but not as good as your benchmark).

Just normal human nature at work. Once you know what's going on you won't weight the negative experience as much as you would without thinking about your own behaviour.

All rendered completely irrelevant if you actually watch your mechs' stats as you play, and you see they performed better pre-basics than they do post-elites.

It is the other way around for me. Continuous success causes me to tense up and focus better, to keep increasing my stats. Continued losses on the other hand, makes me frustrated and sloppy, which affects performance.

Oddly enough this how I work whenever I play any game, when I'm doing good I'm more focus and better prepared to situations. Loss it get frustrating, alot.

i dont know, i hate new mechs initially. even good new mechs that i know are going to be keepers from the get go. leveling doesnt really pick up until you have all the basic skills. after that it just kind of snowballs and starts leveling up fast. mechs that clear basic really fast end up being keepers.

Because you are overly confident, being aware of your "basic" mech might keep you away from playing overly agressive.

Nah, it's an actual thing called "negative bias". Look it up if you want, it's certainly not "completely irrelevant".

Usually this is how it goes for me.

Doing fine ... Doing fine ... Doing fine ... get a match with one of the many better players on the other team, lose horribly ... lose again even with a good score ... lose again with a good score ... take a break from mwo

come back a few hours later and repeat.

Did you happen note the time period you were playing those "to matches"? Were they during a single continuous stretch or broken up over the course of days, but at the same time periods? Etc.

Many have noted in the past that during certain tie periods there are shall we say...greater concentrations of potatoes playing than others. So if your "20 matches" coincided with those periods, well then you may have just happened to be enjoying that particular population of fellow players. Then again, if you played 20 matches in a row and your performance only started to deteriorate at 20, well then you can hold your alcohol far better than I. Posted Image

In GQ, maybe. In SQ, there is no one to plan vengeance against, since I wont likely meet them again.

Of course there is -- forumwarriors -- if and when you meet them on the other side. Posted Image

Actually, OP, just the opposite for me. I go buy a new mech, maybe even three so I can level them (since Skill Tree isn't coming until May), and it is CARRY HARDER with a vengeance in Solo PUG. .5 W/L or worse until Mastered, but over even K/D with 250+ match score average.

Happened with the Top Dog.
Happened with the Jester.
Happened with the ButterBee.
Happened most recently with the Night Gyrs getting Basic (of course I was able to compensate better with them to get even W/L). Then ran the Jade Kite mostly in group queue with friends to Elite and Master.

It's keeping me from buying other mechs that interest me.
