For a new player it's bewildering that there is no official documentation or explanation for so many features and mechanics of the game. I wish PGI would provide .. or if it must sel It for subscription ... an authoritative electronically updated game manual detailing all the rules and features of the game that players currently have to reverse engineer or are otherwise not obvious. There are some basic things that I am just learning from forums after several months in the game: e.g. That the radar deprivation module sends signals to the pilot (maybe), and you can put extra heat sinks in some Engines above 250 and thus save critical spots in the mech (definitely). In some cases there is not agreement about how things work -- such as with the radar deprivation module. Another example is where MWO places Weapons in the weapon group chart relative to their hard point, the order in which weapons are loaded onto multiple HP of the same type in a given component (that is, which will have the higher placed HP), and the mechanics of maximum weapon tubes.
I know there is some fun involved in figuring things out by research or experiment, but it should not be so time consuming to do so and there should be clear right answers to how the game works. PGI -- please do this! Thanks.
