Wargaming is currently testing a new mode called "Frontline" for WoT. I was watching a video about it and thought it could be a good source of inspiration for MWO.

Thoughts?

  • LocationStill doing ungodly amount of damage, but with more accuracy.

So, big *** map with 2-3x more players? I wouldn't recommend that for this poorly optimized game that is called MWO. There were considerable amount of performance loss and player loss when MWO switched from 8v8 to 12v12. Asking for a 30v30 is gonna up that shitshow to eleven. Not to mention the hitreg issues, the increased burden on MM and wait time... I just do not see how it is gonna be worth it.

Even for WoT, I honestly think that mode is a bad idea. I think it encourages more defensive camping in order to bring the enemy team to the range of your artillery units. Another thing that is bad is that its Tier X only, and losing each tank --- you get your Tier X tank plus respawns --- means a very large repair bill that adds up per tank. WoT already has a major problem in their hands which they have not addressed properly and that is the enormous repair cost which scales up per tier. Furthermore, many parts of the map appears to be yet to be multiple corridor maps, and corridor maps have reduced WoT into another peek and boo contest. For those who have not played WoT, but played MWO's Invasion mode in FP, you know how corridor maps suck.

(The mode appears to use ticketed respawns issued every 5 minutes with respawns limited to two regardless of kept tickets when the end game timer starts clocking down.)

An on going war mod like planetside 2 would be fun. 1000 mechs one gaint on going battle of tukayyid would be fun, heck even 100 mechs in a war mod would be a blast. But the problem with that dream even if PGI had the same fantasy would be funding staffing and probably cryengine. May be in the next mechwarrior incarnation it will have 1000 player shark tank mod set on feeding frenzy, yum noobs.

Well it is WoT's sandbox server. That's like pre-pts.

One thing that was interesting was the "zones". Once the attackers take a zone the defenders have just enough time to reform and try to stop them. The zones could be enforced by orbital bombardment or long toms (with a more reasonable blast radius although long toms have a bit of stigma) For MWO it could be good for a dropship defense/assault type mode.
