This is an issue i currently have with the game. Im a guy with 20/20 vision with an exceptional sensitivity to light and contrast.
Especially ambient light coming in from my perifiral vision and ambient light in the room while im playing, and this poses a very big problem on maps in night time and weather conditions.
I cant see anything, its usually garbled black cause my eyes automatically focus on the brightest objects in my field of view. I can more or less only see and shoot at mechs with bright screamy colorschemes, but if someone dark comes in to view, i cant really tell other than the red box. I find myself shooting at a wall without even knowing more often than not.
Nightvision is absolute garbage for me as vision just goes monochrome green with no depth perception with no way of visiually outlining an object. Heat works better but its no fun to play 80% of my games shooting white blobs (which is still pretty god damn terrible game design btw)
So what about adding the option to add a searchlight on your mech to give you some vision when you need it? Mount it on a energy hardpoint on the shoulder or arm.
Pros, you get better situational awareness seeing more than garbled black fog. Would be great at some of the more darker maps like terra therma, night foggy bog etc.
cons, Youre practically announcing your location to the entire world and generally get focus fired due to lightsource. (But in a group this doesnt matter much, which is something you get to use with care)
But i really need one on maps like the bloody bog and viridian (which has a night sky in super bright colors and pitch black ground that you cant even use night or heat vision in)
Shadows would be cool, but not needed. I just want to be able to see what the terrain looks like sometimes, and if theres an enemy in sight.
For reference.

I would like to see floodlights or lights as well. So here is my suggestion.
Range of light 150 meters
Weight Factor None
Critical Spot 1 (must occupy an unused ballistic or energy hardpoint)
Hit Points 2 or perhaps 5
This would at least give us something to help deal with terrain. While not extremely powerful, it would help.

because it should blind the sh*t out of you with your gamma turned up
searchlights should be standard default equipment on all mechs.
vision modes should require skill points to unlock, but this would also allow vision modes to be better like they used to be
