Mechwarrior Online is looking amazing thus far. However, before the game launches, I hope they add two very important elements to the game...

First, I hope they add dirt, grit, scratches, dings, and burn marks to the mechs. The mechs need to look worn from extensive combat and not looking like they just rolled off an assembly line with a crisp paint job. These mechs need to look dirty!

Second, I hope they add environmental destruction, such as: trees getting knocked down from walking mechs, small forest fire blazing out of control from a flamer, significant building damage from incoming missile fire, and water quickly vaporizing into steam from an overheating mech. At the end of the day, feeling powerful in your mech is what it's about!

I agree with the building and tree damage, but the tiny effects on a mech you stated just would be really heavy on the programing

you can already see some damage caused by lasers in the screenshots to the mechs.

They don't have to do so at launch, but it would be neat if it got added after a month or so, afterall they are a tight schedule, I think :)

Forest fires I want. But if I'm going to spend so much money reloading, repairing, and refitting my mech, you can be sure that I will be having a fresh coat of paint every time.

I would laugh if they did not. Even mechwarrior 3 had landscape destruction and killable humans, and that game was made circa 2000's?

Depends on what we're talking about.. skinning? easy as pie, or cake... or icecream.

If we're talking about decals, they're really light, and easelly added, if not already there.

Mechs already show battle damage like armor plating shredding off and limbs missing. Its good now and anything more is just icing on cake! As far as environmental damage sure that would be cool. But I dont think it would be a game breaker if it didn't happen. I think map variety is important.

I don't see why we would be running around with unpainted 'Mechs. They get scorched and blasted enough in combat. If I take heavy damage, they're going to repaint the 'Mech when they go to do repairs.

But if we consider it realistically, how many of your 'Mechs go off the field without having been destroyed? Yeah, not many finish a match intact. You're going to need a lot more than just a fresh coat of paint if you survive.

the mech damage so far i can tolerate i think its ok but a little more is perfect :). as for environmental damage, i think this is very important. i dont wanna charge into a tree or a house and nothing happens

i'd be fine with them making it work like a car, the more you use it the more the replacement armor shows. and or scratches/char marks.

with the option to do a repaint/ wash for a small amount, nothing that will inconvience a player but can be an option for say 100 -1000c-bills or somewhere in there.

it all comes down to vanity.
would you like your mech always looking like it's from an elite military unit with high care requirements?
or would you prefer having it look like it's survived a dozen battles and come out on top.

not really phased on the mechs (Irish don't roll in no beat up rides)

Burning forests would be awesome though. It's even cannon and has LOS effects in TT.

Paint damage rendered in mechlab view? I'm all for it. But not in actual play. That would be taxing to most systems.

Forest fires? sign me up!
