- I love ballistics but even if I train with it, I cannot improve my aim. suggestions?
- Nightgyr-D mounts 3xuac/2, but they often jam. isn't better mount 2x ac/5?
- I cannot find a really good (clan) mech for Grim Portico
- the 3 best pilot skills for survaivability?
- should I save my pilot exp for the new patch, where the skill trees will change?
- how much an entry/mid level (about 100 $) Joystick with throttle can increase my game experience?
thx a lot guys...

Use B pods on NGyr-D to get 4xCUAC5s, or CUAC10+3xCUAC5s.
Grim favors peeking and PPFLD. Try high mounted mechs with Gauss and PPCs.
Joystick will never be as good for performance as plain old keyboard and mouse.

I can't count how many times I miss shots due to different hard point locations , velocity quirks , and different weapons because i play a lot of mechs.
Using the AC-20 on the Hunchback-4G is completely different than on an Atlas.

4x uac2 hbk iic
Scorch with 2xlb20x, 4x srm6.
Grim Portico either lasers at rang or something with a huge burst alpha and JJs.
Nova with 12 ersmls takes a little practice but is one of the best Clan FW mechs. Great for Portico.

I would stay clear of using joysticks as it is hard to aim your reticule (torso) and be accurate. Use the keyboard/mouse, or better yet, move your mech with a USB controller and aim with a mouse.

Doing this, I'll find my way. And, ofc, NO JOYSTICK.
Thx all guys, you're really a friendly community.

Spend your XP, everything is getting refunded if we get the skill tree, if not, well, you unlocked critical skills anyways.
Joysticks sadly are terrible for MWO due to how the game is programmed, don't bother with one for MWO, for other games like Elite Dangerous you can go for it, but, not someone who knows a lot about joysticks.
As for skills for survival, map awareness is key. Torso twisting is also key, and the ability to twist and sacrifice an arm to protect a more valuable side torso or center torso, spreading damage around when you aren't firing your weapons is key to survival. Maneuverability is more powerful than raw speed, being able to go fast in a straight line is great, but, being able to jump over something and your enemy being unable to follow will save you far more often, or just better ability to corner due to good turn speed, so sometimes it is worth throwing on a few more JJ's instead of going up a few more engine ratings on a battlemech under 80 tons.

For the question if vague though, diff ballistics have diff flight characteristics.
For the AC-5-10, use your med lasers as a laser pointer. Fire your lasers then half second later while the lasers are on target, let off your autocannon. Helps you pin-point a specific location.
Gauss/ppc, you'll need to mess with your mouse sensitivity. I gaming mouse will help this as they let you dial in or out your sensitivity on the fly without fiddling with settings. Mine even has a sniper button that takes the DPI down to like 300 and steadies your aim from any flinching.
Pilot skills?
Radar dep: help with running from lrms
Target info: helps you find weak mechs and target weak points quickly
Seismic: situational awareness where your radar isn't worth crap. Let you know if someone is sneaking around you.
last is advanced zoom...for scouting, situational awareness and obviously long range sniping a that torso/arm thats poking out

Situational awareness is at the top. Always keep glancing down at your mini map so make sure you're near your team.
Use the R button all the time till its reflex
Learn the art of peaking and immediately shielding, its just good habbit. You're in cool down, not need to face the opponent.
Along with the previous...learn to torso twist... any time you take fire. Better your arm gets blown off than your torsos.
TALK ON THE FREAKING MIC, let people know whats going on. Communication is crucial.
Call targets....i promise you people are listening and will shoot at what you call out.(alpha, beta, charlie, delta....ect) This ties into using the R button.
Other than that...the rest you'll learn along the way. Positioning and situation awareness are probably the most important though. You can get away without torso twisting bc if you have good positioning, the enemy will likely have too many targets infront of them to focus you.

3 Best pilot skills?
1. Situational Awareness - tunnel vision gets you killed. LOOK AT YOUR RADAR. Sight-read the moving Blue and Red doritos.
2. Win trades. Hit them well, dont get hit in return and if you do, TWIST and move into cover. Stay near terrain and use it for cover. Remember: any 3 mechs can kill you if you are exposed.
3. Use decent builds. Too many newbs gimp themselves because they dont understand how MWO plays. Metamechs is a good font for a description on build types.
Skill Tree? Who even knows? just Elite the mechs you enjoy/are good with and Mastery will come.
No WiiMote, that is for elite players who huff epoxy resin remover. Keyboard+mouse(3+ buttons is nice). Reduce ingame mouse sensitivity for a nice steady aim. you want to be able to hold the reticle over an enemy component AS YOU MOVE.

-Ballistic aiming... what are your FPS? cause if sub 30 then you need to learn to shoot where the mech is on the server not your screen. Practice practice practice as others have said... you need to be able to lead the shot depending on velocity and distance by just knowing it, if you are thinking then you are missing.
-either go 5 cUAC2 or my preference 4 cUAC5... then just practice trying to hit, you have to develop those Twitch Skills.
-all Clan mechs are OP easy button mode (ok I am only like 93% serious on that, but it is hard to make a bad Clan mech)
-Radar Deprivation, Advanced Seismic Sensor, Advanced Zoom.... are the 3 best Pilot Modules to get
-No you should spend it if you got it... you will be refunded the GXP and C-Bills you spent on skill & modules, so why bother waiting & if the Skill Maze is a dumpster fire again it might get pushed back further (PGI has a long & sordid history of trying to pushing poorly thought out, broken, & incomplete systems that transform the game in fundamental ways the community rejects.)
-MWO is the only cockpit centered game that hates Joysticks and punishes you for the impertinence of trying to use one. I personally use a Logitech G600 & Logitech G13... you never have to touch the keyboard again since you have over 44 buttons in your hands before even flipping to different profiles (I still have a few blanks that I have never gotten around programming.) It gives a nice immersive feeling as well as putting all your directional commands on a thumbstick to free up the rest of your left hand for other buttons... not as good as the HOTAS that I use for Elite but still very satisfying.
G600 $39.99
