Hello, have been out of the game for the past 6 months. Did PPCs get buffed? Lots of people are using them, and they're all over metamechs. Did something happen?

Speed increased slightly, heat decreased slightly, Lasers nerfed a fair amount, Spheroid mechs nerfed a fair amount
cGauss and cERPPCs were moved to the top (not that cGauss was ever not)

Also the release of the NightGyr with JJs and high mounts gave Clans the perfect mech to bring back the poptart. Plus it gets to do 2*Gauss + 1ERPPC, so it's cool enough to brawl, unlike the previous poptart mechs.
The HBK-IIC has perfect high mounts for 2*ERPPC, and rocks enough heatsinks + JJs to use them.

Also it was safer to hunt dakka kodiaks from further away... less of a risk these days but still not a good idea to stare at them for long...

I just got bored with all the other load outs so I started using ERPPCs
Like every third hit does not register but big deal you can still have fun
So I have a ERPPC ACH, FS9
I bumped my Sparky up to 110 kph and mounted 2 ERPPCs which is pretty fun (yeah I know way under powered)
I even noticed they have a laser vomit Centurion so I bought one thinking I could have another
Fast moving PPCer but it was to slow to work
You can have some fun with a super fast jump-jeting PPC Mech
(Does take a lot of practice to hit anything)

PPC damage hits in one spot mostly, so harder to spread
I think of it as an energy ballistic weapon, bit hot with infinite ammo
Hit reg can be a bit meh thou, kills light mechs good

Yeah, but it wasn't anything major. Lasers lost their charm with the great dequirkening, ACs in general have longer cooldowns (UACs have higher jam chances), UAC2s no longer land crits, SRM spread got increased, LRM5s are laughably bad after their spread adjustment (not that LRMs weren't already bad), MGs got buffed but they're still not too great, and gauss rifles now only have 2x max range rather than 3x max range for both factions
So, now we're back to PPCs being the top tier weapon, and PPCs pair best with gauss, even with the reduced max range
