Reinstalled MWO, figured I'd get in on the new event, and thought, "Man, why did I end up dumping this game, anyway? It was pretty fun!"

...then, it came back to me, all too quickly...

Mentioned in a match, "Dude, the MST3K reboot is great!"
Had three people chime in almost instantly (two on my own team) with **** like, "lol what is that? a gay bar that you founded?," "who fuckn cares douche," and "sounds gay."

So, I replied pretty neutrally with, "Eh, if you don't know what MST3K is, then it's not worth trying to explain."

So, of course, another doubly large spew of "***, gay, derrrp" comments were exuded. Obviously, **** the comments at that point, right?

Aaaanyway, yeah... Was like, "Oh...oh, that's right. Now I remember why I quit playing MWO! The community is...well, is full of that. X_x"
Eh, **** MWO. Gonna spend my time on Overwatch instead. MWO isn't worth playing PUGs in. All it took me was three matches to remind me of why I uninstalled. Damn thing is, we won 2 of the matches, and both teams were still ******' ridiculously vitriolic.

Seems like a terrible reason to stop playing a game you enjoy. I've certainly had more positive experiences than negative ones, especially compared to other more popular games.

Could always go into the options, hide the chat, and turn off the voice coms.

Perhaps Salty more than Toxic, but I rarely see anything like that

The highlights to the first episode of the new MST3K were Wil Wheaton, Erin Gray and Felicia Day. Erin especially so as she rarely acts anymore. She still looks hot...and she's 67 now.

In all my games I have met 2 or 3 "people" that were unbearable to the point I blocked them.

You met two in one game and say it is common or hurtful enough to drive you away from the game? You either have extremely bad luck or there is something about your voice that drives people to toxicity.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you don't like chat or what is said on voice, turn off chat and VOIP. It's that simple. I turned both off long ago and have peace.

Just mute that specific person and/or block them and/or report them if necessary, no need to mess with your own and others ability to work as a team..

Solution;

Settings > Disable All Chat.

Breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy the game.
