True story, I dated Don't Taze Me Bro's sister. It was an.... interesting family.

Well, voltage will do that.

I like the cartoon. It hasn't aged as well as some, but hearing the Battletech references in the show still makes me smile. I do wish we would get another show one day.

As a side note, here is a fan remake of the initial encounter on Somerset with the Jade Falcon forces. It is very well done...

Not bad, it kept true to the slow (and somewhat nonsensical) nature of the original animation (which is largely due to limitations in both time and computer animation technology at the time).

Kind of interested to figure out what other games were used to make the animations.

I myself have plans -- currently referred to as BattleTech Simulator -- loosely preluded to in various places as well as ironing out some details in the hypothetical thread, though rather than using in-game stuff (as this requires many cooperating players -- something I just don't have), I've been debating on animation platforms to put my own original models into.

Up until now there's been a few options and the debate's been heavy between SFM and MMD. Yes, that MMD. (Safer link for those worried about being judged.)

I've finally decided on which route to go, as aided by these two videos.
For graphics.
For the human element -- though lets be honest, I could use anything from the FNAF animatronics to the cockroaches from Joe's Apartment if I want to. Heck, I can even take the animation and simply switch out character artstyles from western to eastern and vice-versa, or change to filter to go from looking purely like a nearly 2D cartoon to making them look like plastic dolls.

-----------

Back to Summerset and the BT Cartoon. I find it rather comical and sad that there's a running gag about finding autocannon ammo. "I wish I had some ammo for my autocannons!" "What I wouldn't do for some ammo!" "My only objective is finding me some ammo."

I'm surprised they didn't do a "Information is ammunition" "Then load my autocannon with it." or similar pun.

---

The companion book makes numerous references to the use of autocannons that in the cartoon is just yet more lasers. Even the PPCs seem to be...just yet more lasers. But I have also noticed that the companion has setups to recreate some of the battles. If I can get someone to play them out with me in Megamek, or if I just play them out myself, I'll share the fights here to see how it probably would have "really" turned out. Something tells me a Summoner wouldn't take that much abuse, even if you figure that lasers really did have more of a DOT mechanic rather than a one shot = full rating (FLD mechanic).

If anyone ever wondered why the Adder has a flamer mounted above the cockpit... all I can say is "Elementals."

That reminds me of a long since passed Mechwarrior RPG campaign I was in, my character was an (Advanced) Elemental for Clan Ghost Bear, he killed many a mechwarriors by getting onto the cockpit, cutting through the cockpit, then firing his support laser into the cockpit.

A new, well done, cartoon would be great to see. Would also drum up business for MWO. I used to love (and still do) the Robotech/Macross sagas as a child and hated BT because of that awful cartoon. Thankfully MW2 came along to show me the light. Now I love both franchise, but only one still has a good cartoon. I suppose only one also has a great series of games and novels. New cartoon please.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to put a BT movie together in my spare time when I'm not doing IRL things or actually playing mwo.

This is a must see for fans of the orginal and the MWO mechs looking great in this.

Have to say, I like the speed displayed in this remake. Very "heavy war machine" like.

Edit: Added text (shown in bold) after rereading and noticing it sounded like mechs could pull the matrix dodge. Thus, fixed with the bolded text.

Perhaps, but the pacing (of their movements or fighting without manuvering didn't make terribly much sense.

[since Mechs as early as 1989 are stated to automatically try to avoid damage [it's the reason the to hit roll has a chance to miss even against an unaware target from behind and why called shots only exist if the mech is powered down or if the pilot is unconscious, as according to the Tech Manual the DI computer cannot determine intent to take damage or to avoid harm without a conscious pilot. Battlemechs, both according to BattleTechnology and the almost plagiarized information in the TechManual on the cockpit subject and the DI, will automatically TRY to avoid all collisions as possible, including those from projectiles UNLESS the pilot intends for the collision (with examples including raising an arm to fire if doing so would shove it through a building, colliding with trees and street lamps, and taking enemy fire to protect something else). BattleTechnology magazine admits that a mech cannot react to laser fire before it hits or even sense it, but it can detect the heat of its armor melting and will try to deflect or get away from it so long as it doesn't interfere with the pilot's course. In other words it may raise an arm in the way if it isn't being used or pull a nearby tree. Leading to rules about forest absorbing damage.]

Yes mechs move slower to increase accuracy of the DPS-oriented weaponry, but the walking was originally done due to technical limitations. (From the scales in the BT cartoon, similar to those of the old BT, these things are on average 3 to 4 stories tall at the most with the tallest one being 5 stories tall. So not much height. MW2 had a tribute to this.)

You'll notice some of the machines do the heavy walk.
But others do not.

I have always wanted to see what a Clan extended range particle projection cannon would do to an organic target. Personally.

This reminds me of that time TheBeef was watching the cartoon on stream. My favorite moment was when he said "Oh my god, they're scrubs.." xD

He also got a real kick out of the bearded guy calling the Kuritan, bakaboys. Truly laugh out loud moment.
