Suggestion: Time For Solaris?

Why spend so much time and effort cooking up complex game modes like the Incursion when you can simply make a FFA Solaris game mode?! It is time for some mech FFA deathmatches, Solaris style, differentiated by class.

Actually, Solaris solves the main frustration and problem with the current TDM system: POTATOES!

Jumping into a FFA removes the frustration of being screwed over by dumber than dumber teammates who won't listen or can't aim so there's no one else standing between you and victory other than your skill and your mech.

Furthermore, this game mode can be made so that its only like between only 4 to 6 mechs at a time of the same class with the last man standing being victor, and prizes decline in accordance to when one falls.

The ONLY problem with such a game mode is this...

There may be no longer anyone interested to queue for the quickplay that is in place now...

Splitting the Queue further would hamper the already meager pool of players we have for match making.


Tier 1s are vs Tier 5s already because there just isn't enough players, adding another game mode on top of Faction Play would be folly.

just add it as a separate game mode with 24 teams of 1 or 6 teams of 4.

Even applying PGI levels of non-effort, its surely fairly straightforward as it basically just needs to be skirmish with more teams and a different score indicator at the top of the screen.

I dont understand why quickplay isnt just themed after company level solaris battles, and teirs renamed divisions. Lotta cool things could be expanded upon from there.

Yes, Solaris FFA solves so many things that are wrong with the current TDM system...

Solaris will never happen other than, personally run matches. What we might get is maybe some more maps for solaris but doubtful anytime anything soon. The reasons why is because there are many of other things PGI has listed they want to work on first.

Long long past time for Solaris, should have been here 2 years ago. Probably should have been here before Faction Warfare, it might have helped keep more players playing (maybe).

Do your own research to find the exact date/event, but there was a town hall last year (October maybe?) wherein Russ said it was still the intention to bring forth a Solaris mode but the hang-up causing its delay was PGI's inability to get a proper replay function to work; and that in Russ's view such a replay function was critical to the Solaris mode concept as he envisions it.

I believe that was the last word on Solaris and they (Russ or anyone else at PGI) have given no further indication that Solaris is any closer to coming into the game or that their asserted problems with the replay function are any closer to being overcome.

dump FP for now and drop a simple Solaris mode in. Set certain hours in the day when special matches are available for only lights, only mediums, etc. Run a side league for the comp people as the Elite Solaris section. When you PUG you can select Open Warfare and or Solaris matches so the bucket of players problem can be mitigated.

I only want an open class Solaris mode. In fact I only want one single mode: 24+ last-player-standing no-holds-barred winner-takes-all fights.

From my POV, it has nothing to do with player count or buckets. I just really want a single Solaris queue where anything goes.

Getting 8 players in a FFA would be far easier than 24 players balanced between 2 teams in terms of Tier and mechs. Although like others are saying, splitting the queue for an already stressed playerbase isn't the best of Ideas. And that 8 player matchmaking is done in 4 brackets (mech class), making that 32 players to fill out.

Could always just make it part of the single queue. Just have to get enough people to vote on it in the selection screen. 24 mech free for all would be awesome.
